Parody As a Weapon Part XLVI

Previously, in Part XLV, the current press secretary for the current occupant of the White House was the subject of song parody. This week, it will be her counterparts on the other side of the podium and their fellow travelers on the left who are the butt of this week’s revised tune.

The leftist sympathies of many of those in the field of journalism has long ago been exposed, and has completely undermined any pretense of objectivity. From the murderous Stalinist propaganda propagated by Pulitzer Prize winner Walter Duranty of the New York Times, to the Pulitzers awarded for the reporting on the false narrative of Trump’s collusion, the mainstream press has long celebrated those who spread lies about America or give aid and comfort to its enemies.

They frequently are the font of deception regarding their domestic enemies and foreign friends, and feel no need to be constrained by the truth in the construction of their leftist narratives, as Jayson Blair, Stephen Glass and Sabrina Erdely demonstrate. While more than 40 years ago, at least Janet Cooke of the Washington Post had enough remorse to return her Pulitzer Prize after it was revealed she invented the eight year old heroin addict that she wrote about (and crack-using ex-con democrat then- mayor Marion Barry fraudulently verified), today’s WaPo and NYT feel no such shame for the role their outlets paid in forwarding the false narrative advanced on behalf of the democrats. Similarly, the press actually covered up and censored many facts about the spread of coronavirus and participated with the administration in obfuscating the truth about the efficacy of vaccinations.

The mainstream press and television news are currently held in such low esteem and have such low credibility that some of its members are questioning whether they their self-proclaimed mission of afflicted the comfortable while comforting the afflicted is worth their effort. Katy Tur of MSNBC recently said this out loud and on the air. Some might even say that the leftist broadcaster actually seemed have been hurt.

Of course, Ms. Tur is not the first person to feel “I’ve Been Hurt”, as that was the title of one of the signature hits of Bill Deal and the Rhondels. Well-placed from their home in Virginia Beach, these stars of the beach music scene had fans shagging (referring here to the dance, and not the Austin Power’s definition) since the 1960s to their hits such as “May I” or “What Kind of Fool”, as well as the aforementioned recording. One of their lesser known hits, not to be confused with a Petula Clark song with the same title, was “Nothing Succeeds Like Success”.

It is a song based on the old-fashioned notion that one should be financially successful before one takes on responsibilities such as supporting a spouse. While this theme was a staple of why couples delayed tying the knot in popular culture in the early 20th century, the idea that one might delay gratification until the future does not seem to have as many adherents in the new millennium.

For our purposes today, though, the song’s rhythm and meter lends itself well to today’s theme of fake news. As such, I offer this re-working:

I’m home sick with the flu

On TV comes “The View”

Flynn’s gonna tell they coax

But it’s their delusion

Of Russian collusion

And yet they peddle that hoax

Oh, they said Trump’s afraid

So Vlad might invade

And Donald won’t stop

But it’s Joe on the hook

For the rubles they took

According to Hunter’s laptop

Nothing deceives like the press

And I guess, New York Times

N B C all of the rest

Like Walter Duranty

At Stalin’s behest

Nothing deceives like the press

Leftist sympathizers

And stockholders of Pfizer’s

Say that they’ll stop the spread

Say you must get the shot

And if not your grandmother

Soon will be dead

And then get a booster

And another to juice you

Soon all the risk is gone

Then your nose starts to run

Other symptons begun

You find that you got Omicron

Nothing deceives like the press

And I guess, Washington

Post and all of the rest

Janet Cooke’s Pulitzer

Lies were confessed

Nothing deceives like the press

And watch as Joe tried

To climb up the ladder

And each time he would fall down

But the press blamed the breeze

That knocked him to his knees

And he’s not just a senile old clown

Nothing deceives like the press

And I guess, New York Times

N B C all of the rest

Like Walter Duranty

At Stalin’s behest

Nothing deceives like the press

Nothing deceives like the press

And I guess, Washington

Post and all of the rest

Janet Cooke’s Pulitzer

Lies were confessed

Nothing deceives like the press
