Gun Control: Another Solution That Won’t Work, To A Problem We Don’t Have

Politicians, again, show how clueless they are to stop gun crime.

Last week I posted on how in a recent shooting in Kansas City, the gun did not kill or injury someone, a person did. I knew logic and truth could not last. Leftist politicians and the 4Th Estate (six of one, half-dozen of the other, I know) will revert to their template soon enough.

Well we’re back to blaming the piece of metal, not the person using it. From an abomination near my hometown, an illegal alien who had been annoying his neighbors for ages, murdered five family members and is currently on the run.

Manhunt underway for gunman who killed five neighbors, sheriff says

A man killed five people, including an 8-year-old boy, with an AR-15-style weapon Friday night in an angry response to his neighbors’ request that he stop shooting in his yard while their baby was trying to sleep, according to Texas authorities.

Instead of heeding his neighbors’ request, the man allegedly took the gun, went to their house, and killed half the people inside. He then fled, sparking an overnight manhunt around Cleveland, Tex., that continued through Saturday afternoon…

…The mass killing of a family in their home was the latest act of retaliatory gun violence to traumatize an American community. The shooting renewed calls from gun control advocates for a federal ban on assault weapons, which have a unique ability to destroy the human body. It was at least the seventh incident this month in which an armed American shot people in response to regular, everyday interactions.

What “unique ability to destroy the human body” are we talking about? Apparently an AR-15 possess this power by itself (remember that for later). If the author things a .223 bullet can “uniquely” destroy the human body, they should look at the different ballistics a .223 and a 12-gauge slug.

Also the AR-15 fires a standard .223 round, the same as my Ruger Mini-14. The Ruger is rarely called an “assault” weapon (maybe I should shut up now, I may give a moron an idea). Seriously, could this “reporter” explain to me how a .223 round fired from an AR-15 “uniquely destroys the human body,” but a .223 round fired from a Ruger Mini-14 (or a Savage XP Hardwood bolt action, or Henry Long Ranger lever action) causes less damage to the body?

Now something about the shooter, the man who actually murdered the family. Will anyone “renew calls” to secure our border, seeing “the suspect has been deported previously and reentered the US multiple times?” If we hold a rifle responsible for its misuse from by the owner or user, is a the car responsible for the death and destruction on the highways caused by accidents? Or alcohol companies liable for the death and damage from drunk driving?

I think we know the answers to those questions.

Not to be outdone, the idiot governor in Washington state (a former reliable red state, now overridden by the locusts from the PDRK (People’s Democratic Republic of Kalifornia)) has proudly banned “assault weapons” in his state. Yes, you can’t make this stupidity up.

WA becomes 10th state in the U.S. to ban assault weapons after Inslee signs bill into law

Washington state became the 10th state in the U.S. to ban assault weapons on Tuesday when Gov. Jay Inslee signed a bill passed by this year’s legislature as part of a sweeping package of proposals aimed at reducing gun violence.

An emergency clause in the assault weapons bill means that the manufacture, importation, distribution, sale, or offer for sale of any assault-style weapon are immediately banned in the state of Washington.

“These weapons of war have no reason other than mass murder. Their only purpose is to kill humans as rapidly as possible in large numbers,” Inslee said. “And I will say this–AR15s should not be idolized, they should be prohibited and that’s what we’re doing today…”

The bill specifies which types of assault-style weapons are banned, including AK-47s, AR15s, M16s, and M4s in all forms.

Two other weapons bills passed by state lawmakers this year were signed Tuesday, one requiring a 10-day waiting period before purchasing any firearms the other requiring the firearm industry to “establish, implement and enforce reasonable controls regarding the manufacture, sale, distribution, import, use, and marketing of the firearm industry members’ firearm and firearm-related products…”

“There is nothing better than saving lives and that’s what we did today,” Inslee told reporters after the bill signing.

One, the governor is either a liar or a fool (more likely both). Most mass shootings (four or more at one time) are conducted with pistols, not rifles. Rifles are harder to carry and conceal, and pistol magazines are smaller than rifle magazines. Also, most criminals do not buy their firearms from licenses dealers, but from the black market, “The 2016 Survey of Prison Inmates said that 90% of the prisoners who had a gun during their crime didn’t get it from a retail source.” So the harassment of gun dealers will have no effect on gun crime.

Mr. Inslee’s delusions aside, his law is pathetic. I looked through the fifteen-page text and it’s missing a minor detail: A definition of an “assault weapon.” It only list 62 specific rifles and short barrel rifles. Some of my favorites from the list:

  • Barrett .50 cal M87: This is a long-range sniper rifle that is designed to be fired from the prone position (i.e., while the shooter is laying on the ground). It weighs 33 lbs., is over 4 ½ feet in length and had a 10-round magazine.
  • Barrett .50 cal M107A1: Similar to the M87 above, but a few inches shorter and slightly lighter (29 lbs.).

Mr. Inslee, in case the children typing your Teleprompter forgot to mention it, active shooter generally move from one spot to another in search of people to murder. A comparison, an AR-15 weighs 6.5 pounds, is normally 32’ in length (full size) and can be fired while moving. A Barrett cannot unless you are Conan the Barbarian or a former governor of Minnesota. Also, 100 rounds of .223 weighs around ¾ of a pound. One-hundred rounds of .50 cal, depending on how the rounds are linked, are 26-35 pounds. I really doubt any picked upon nerd is going to be carrying that type of weapon.

I’m recalling the immortal words of the late Rush Limbaugh: Symbolism over Substance. The governor got great press from people who have no clues of what they speak or write. Their solution to criminal committing crimes with firearms they cannot legally possess is to hinder and harass law abiding citizens. Until cities, states and the feds start targeting (pun intended) the criminal class, disarming them by placing them in prison, gun crime will continue. See the stat about where criminals get their guns, it’s not from Academy Outdoors. They will always have weapons. Disarming the law-abiding public will only make them more venerable to the criminal element.
