Confirmed: Jamie Raskin lied about Biden bribery memo

Little did former President Donald Trump know when he replaced fired FBI Director James Comey with Christopher Wray that it made no difference. Although Wray hadn’t presided over the FBI’s bogus counterintelligence investigation of the Trump campaign, he is very much a creature of the deep state and he remains a team player.

In a May 3 letter to Attorney General Merrick Garland and Wray, Sen. Chuck Grassley (R-IA), the ranking member on the Senate Budget Committee and Chairman of the House Oversight Committee James Comer (R-KY) wrote that an FBI whistleblower had informed Grassley about an unclassified FD-1023 document in the bureau’s possession that “describes an alleged criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Biden and a foreign national relating to the exchange of money for policy decisions.”

Comer issued a subpoena for the document and set a compliance date of May 10. Although Wray refuses to hand over the requested material, he sent four FBI agents over to Capitol Hill on Monday to show the memo to Comer and Rep. Jamie Raskin (D-MD), the ranking member on the HOC, in a sensitive compartmented information facility.

Afterward, Comer and Raskin had dramatically different recollections of what they had just seen and what had been discussed during the meeting.

Remarkably, Raskin told reporters the FBI had reviewed the allegations and concluded there was no reason to continue the investigation. “What we’re talking about is second-hand hearsay. And they did whatever investigative due diligence was called for in that assessment period and they found no reason to escalate it from an assessment to a so-called preliminary investigation. And after that, comes a full-blown investigation.”

“What I know is that the FBI, Department of Justice team under William Barr and Scott Brady in the Western District of Pennsylvania terminated the investigation. They said there were no grounds for further investigative steps.”

Asked by a reporter if Comer had lied when he said the document was part of an ongoing investigation, Raskin said, “I must’ve missed that because I’ve not heard that this is part of any ongoing investigation.”

Finally, Raskin claimed that “Rudy Giuliani surfaced these allegations.”

The media ran with Raskin’s talking points. The headline in the Washington Post read, “FBI had reviewed, closed inquiry into Biden claims at center of Hill fight.” Politics USA reported, “JAMIE RASKIN DESTROYS JAMES COMER’S BIDEN PAY FOR PLAY SCANDAL.”

The Federalist’s Margot Cleveland contacted former Attorney General William Barr on Tuesday to set the record straight. Barr told Cleveland, “It’s not true. It wasn’t closed down. On the contrary, it was sent to Delaware for further investigation.”

Comer responded to Raskin’s remarks during an interview with Newsmax later that day. Comer said, “He lied to the American people. This has nothing to do with Rudy Giuliani. … And the FBI said four times that this document needed to be protected because it’s part of an ongoing investigation.”

Asked to respond to Raskin’s claim that the information gleaned from this source was “second-hand hearsay,” Comer replied, “The human informant, according to the FBI, is one of the most trusted, most accomplished informants in the entire bureau.” He added that this highly-paid individual has been working with the FBI for 13 years.

Comer continued, “The payee informed the human source that nobody would ever find it because the way the Bidens wanted the money was to be sent through multiple banks and multiple essentially shell companies before it got to the Biden family. … There is a pattern here. … And I do not believe the FBI ever investigated this.”

During a Tuesday evening interview with Just the News, Comer revealed that the human informant first alerted the FBI about the $5 million bribery scheme in 2017 and then a second time in “either 2018 or 2019.” So the June 30, 2020 FD-1023 was the informant’s third attempt to convey this information.

Comer also disclosed that the document “involves a business person from Ukraine, who allegedly sent a bribe, a substantial bribe, to then-Vice President Joe Biden.”

Asked if that person might be Ukrainian oligarch Mykola Zlochevsky, whose energy firm, Burisma Holdings, offered Hunter Biden a highly paid seat on its board of directors while his father was serving as President Obama’s “point man” in Ukraine, Comer replied: “I probably better punt on that question. The name was redacted.” In fact, according to Comer, 10% of the document was redacted.

At the time of the interview, the FBI was still refusing to allow access to the document to all members of the HOC and Comer was forging ahead with plans to hold Wray in contempt of Congress.

However, on Wednesday night, Fox News confirmed that Wray had agreed to let all committee members view the document and that Comer had accepted his offer and canceled Thursday’s scheduled vote to hold the FBI director in contempt. Fox also reported the FBI will provide “two additional documents referenced in the FD-1023” to Comer and the truth-challenged Raskin.

Stay tuned.
