A Short Term Solution to the “Palestinian Problem.”

Yesterday, we published one potential solution (What’s Next in Gaza) to give erstwhile Egyptian and Jordanian citizens, now improperly referred to as “Palestinians,” a place to live, while addressing Israel’s quite real security concerns. Here is another proposal to do just that.

There is no long-term solution as long as Muslims subscribe to the belief that all infidels – non-Muslims – either die or convert. However, there might be a short-term solution to the on-going turmoil. A “term” of any length would be better than forever daily battles that could result in a third world war.

The current Israeli-Palestinian conflict wars might be neutralized if nations of the world chipped-in to PURCHASE the Sinai Peninsula from Egypt. This would  allow for a permanent home for the Palestinians – with, of course,  a demilitarized buffer zone between them and Israel. Purchase is the key word inasmuch as this would not involve bullets, bombs or  forced occupation. Everything is for sale – it’s just a matter of value and quid pro quo. The U.S. could use the $6B earmarked for Iran as a starter.

A  guy approaches a lady in a bar and after some conversation says, “Would you go to bed with me for $1M? She replies, “Let’s go big boy.” To which he then says, “How ‘bout $10? She becomes indignant saying, “What kind of girl do you think I am? He then says, “We’ve already established what kind of girl you are, now all we’re doing is haggling price.”

The Sinai is a sparsely populated (600,000 Egyptians), mostly desert and mountainous area – but with borders to the Red and the Mediterranean Seas. It measures 15M acres – 100x the size of Gaza. Gaining a second ocean as a border would be a real plus for the Palestinians. Citizens of this new state who claim the Sinai Peninsula is uninhabitable would have to answer the question: Would this be an admission they are not as intelligent or as capable as Israelis who produced an oasis on similarly uninhabitable land and with fewer people?

Once the purchase is complete Israel could then order all Palestinians out of Gaza (sans weapons) by a set date after which Israel will level the Gaza strip. The leveling would be necessary inasmuch physically occupying this land, as is, would subject Israeli soldiers to boobytraps, land mines and/or suicide assaults. The Gaza Strip would then revert to Israel. The Prisoners held by Hamus must be released before this New Palestinian state would be acknowledged by the UN.

This is a win-win-win:

1) Egypt unloads unused land for cash or credit; the Palestinians get a place of their own much larger than what they now have and an opportunity to become a UN recognized state – without having to recognize Israel;

2) Israel recovers lost territory and gains a secure border;

3) America and the West, per se., enjoy economic improvement from contracts for building superstructures, roads, electric grids, water… in the new country;

4) Nobody has to die, and the world can take a breather.
