In a pointed interview on “The Ingraham Angle,” Behrends lambasted Walz for allegedly deceiving the American public about his military career. According to Behrends, Walz retired from the Minnesota National Guard in May 2005, just before his unit received deployment orders to Iraq, which came in July of that year. Despite Walz’s claims of being a retired Command Sergeant Major, Behrends asserts that Walz never fulfilled the service requirements for this rank and actually retired as a Master Sergeant.
The controversy gained traction following Vice President Kamala Harris’s announcement of Walz as her running mate. Walz’s official biography describes him as a retired Command Sergeant Major and claims he carried a gun “in war,” although he never saw active combat. This narrative has led to accusations of “stolen valor,” with critics like Behrends arguing that Walz is falsely inflating his military credentials for political gain.

Schilling recalls the collective disappointment and disbelief among his fellow soldiers when Walz left his unit.
