Serving America

Memorial, Veterans and Independence are American tear producing days when we honor our soldiers – past and present. We are also blessed to have an abundance of patriotic citizens who have unselfishly served this country so many times. Right here on our soil and in highly visible positions are others of every affiliation who serve this great nation. Everyday our first line of defense, our police officers and firefighters unflinchingly serve at risks that cost some their livelihood and lives.

Common Sense

A succinct definition of Common Sense seems difficult to state. The issue might be semantics. Even CoPilot AI struggles: “The shared, experience-based judgment people rely on to handle ordinary situations without needing specialized knowledge.” Merriam-Webster isn’t much better: “Sound and prudent judgement based on a simple perception of the situation or facts”. Now, with each word’s meaning defined, I’ll give it a try:

Consequences

Trump has successfully demonstrated the tactic of threatening dire consequences to bring latent matters to the forefront, to wit: Greenland – the intended consequence was not “taking” this island but forcing Denmark to send arms to protect against China/Russia closing the new sea-lanes. The intended consequences of saying he was going to withdraw from NATO suddenly inspired the members to start paying up; and pressuring Cuba to change regimes by controlling Venezuelan oil….

Lie Detector

The polygraph (lie detector) test does not determine truth – it reveals what one believes to be the truth. Even when confronted with conclusive evidence, eyewitnesses ofttimes believe what they’ve subconsciously convinced themselves to believe. Test-takers can pass this truth/belief test if they truly believe – not merely wish, deem or imagine – what they claim is the truth.  In other words, if a person believes that two plus two equals five, a polygraph test will confirm they are being truthful.

Cultural Rewards

During WWII the upper echelon German leaders’ culture was fight to the death embracing even suicide…as Hitler did. The troops, however, were not fatalistic inasmuch as when faced with obvious over-powering odds they surrendered. The Japanese had a different culture: Military officers and their soldiers believed honorable death, including Hara‑kiri, was preferrable to capitulation. Their Emperor was slightly more realistic, calling it quits after experiencing the devastation of nuclear bombs.

Electoral College

Contrary to media claims, there is no such thing as the Electoral College. Article II, Section One of the Constitution: “Each state shall appoint…electors”. Electors are chosen by political parties, usually at state party conventions, or by the party’s central committee. They are not elected by voters, per se.

New EVs

electric vehicles

Even though Tesla has exhibited supremacy in electric vehicle development, the EV revolution got off to a bad start due to a few isolated, but well publicized, reports of car and cell phone battery fires. Hurting worse was the lack of conformity for charging stations/plugs. China and European car makers are expanding their increasingly better EV models while Ford, GM and Honda, being unable to catch-up with the technology, scaled back their battery-tech programs after Trump relaxed federal mandates.

BIBLE STUDY, Observations, Comments, Part VI

Is the G_d of the Israelites unforgiving, jealous and vengeful? In Genesis it was clear that G_d made man in his own image. G_d’s image could be described as one of vengeance, jealousy and spite. Does today’s man mirror this image? He kills many of those made in His image, including some of The Chosen People. Warmongering is evident by his orders to kill all in the promised land. Times were not easy for the Hebrews, first they were slaves to the Pharaoh only to become slaves to a vengeful, jealous and unforgiving G_d. If G-d created all persons and creatures, why would he kill his creations or order the killing of so many persons and innocent sacrificial animals? Perhaps, they are ones created by other gods?

BIBLE STUDY, Observations, Comments, Part V

We are here because…choose your own reason. I believe there is a power, presence, province – a god – that has created the universe and that we, humans on planet earth, are merely an infinitesimally small part thereof and we are here for only an equally tiny span of time.

Whose Safety?

Like most major cities the Atlanta police department can access about 25,000 cameras, 20,000 of which come from the private sector. Couple that with eyeball, facial, voice, DNA, license plate readers, contraband-sniffing dogs/robots, drones, cell phone pings, airport scanners and all the stuff they know about you via the internet/social media … and you ain’t got no secrets.
