During a Monday night hearing, Rep. Liz Cheney (R-WY,) who is the vice chair of the Jan. 6 Committee, read aloud a series of text messages received by then-White House Chief of Staff Mark Meadows on that fateful day.
In the video below, Cheney reads texts from Donald Trump Jr. and from Fox News hosts Sean Hannity, Laura Ingraham and Brian Kilmeade, all of whom tell Meadows that the President must call on the mob to end the riot.
Laura Ingraham wrote: “Hey Mark, the president needs to tell people in the Capitol to go home. … This is hurting all of us. … He is destroying his legacy.”
Brian Kilmeade wrote: “Please get him on TV. Destroying everything you have accomplished.”
Sean Hannity urged: “Can he make a statement? … Ask people to leave the Capitol.”
Trump Jr. texts Meadows: “He’s got to condemn this shit ASAP.”
Meadows responds: “I’m pushing it hard. I agree.”
Trump Jr. texts again: “We need an Oval Office address. He has to lead now. It has gone too far and gotten out of hand.”
Eventually Trump issues a statement to his supporters telling them, “I know your pain, I know you’re hurt. But you have to go home now, we have to have peace. We have to have law and order. We have to respect our great people in law and order.”
This was not a good look for then-President Donald Trump. All hell is breaking loose and his son, his advisors and even Fox News hosts are calling on him to make a statement to quell the chaos underway at the Capitol.
He could have and perhaps should have acted faster than he did.
Still, what Cheney presents as “damning” evidence actually disproves the narrative that House Democrats (and ten Republicans including Cheney) impeached him for exactly one week after Jan. 6 – incitement of an insurrection.
Although the President was not convicted by the Senate, Democrats and anti-Trumpers have perpetuated the myth that he had planned an “insurrection” so he could cling to power.
And since the Jan. 6 Committee was able to go as far as to subpoena Meadows’ personal text messages, we the people would like some answers as well.
First, the government needs to release all surveillance footage from Jan. 6. They have been holding back critical video because it conflicts with their bogus version of events. They must give it up.
Second, in her capacity as House Speaker, Nancy Pelosi is responsible for security at the Capitol.
Evidence shows the intelligence community had been warned that the planned protest could turn violent.
The Washington Post reported that on Jan. 5, “an FBI office in Virginia issued an explicit warning that extremists were preparing to travel to Washington to commit violence and ‘war.’”
Why did she decline additional security at the Capitol on that day? Was she hoping for violence because it would clearly benefit the Democrats?
At any rate, we the people would like to see Pelosi’s personal communications prior to and during the riot.
The Jan. 6 Committee exists for one reason. Democrats want to prevent Trump from running in 2024.
Unless they can come up with stronger stuff than Mark Meadows’ text messages, good luck with that.
