Psaki: White House Is ‘Deeply Concerned’ About Threat to Freedom of Speech in Russia

With a straight face, White House press secretary Jen Psaki told reporters on Friday they are deeply concerned about the threat to freedom of speech in Russia after officials blocked citizens’ access to Facebook.

Psaki was asked if the administration had concerns about Russia’s latest move. In a moment of breathtaking hypocrisy, she replied:

This is a part of their effort to cut off a range of information from their public. … There are concerning steps they have taken to crack down on any form of information being shared with their public.

Certainly Facebook is a part of that.

They’ve also threatened fines for journalists reporting on the ground. … They’ve confirmed there are only certain words their own Russian media can use at the risk of being fined or even jailed. This is a pattern. This is not necessarily a new approach that they have taken, but to crack down on information in their country to reach the Russian people. So certainly we are deeply concerned about this and concerned about the threat to freedom of speech in the country.

But here is Psaki just one month ago calling for Spotify to do more to censor Joe Rogan.

A reporter begins by saying, “You said that tech companies have an important role to play in stopping misinformation because they are the predominant places where misinformation spreads.” He asked, “Does the White House and the administration think this is a satisfactory step?”

Psaki responds:

Our hope is that all major tech platforms and all major news sources for that matter, [she begins reading a prepared response] be responsible and be vigilant to insure the American people have access to accurate information on something as significant as COVID-19. That certainly includes Spotify. So, this disclaimer, it’s a positive step, but we want every platform to do more to call out mis and disinformation while also uplifting accurate information.

I guess it’s okay if the content involves “misinformation” or “disinformation,” right Jen?

The Biden Administration works with Big Tech and with the legacy media routinely to (try to) control the information that reaches the public. They’ve also enlisted the Department of Justice and the Pentagon, both of which had begun their transitions over to the dark side before Biden took office. The confirmations of Attorney General Merrick Garland and Defense Secretary Lloyd Austin completed those transformations.

The only difference between American and Russian censorship is that, because of the First Amendment, the U.S. government is forced to be more subtle. In Russia, censorship is expected. In America, it must be obscured.

Americans are catching on to their tactics. For example, we’ve learned that when the left deems something to be misinformation or disinformation, it’s merely means it’s something they don’t want the public to know. Consider all the stories they’ve slapped with these labels that have ultimately been found to be true. The Hunter laptop story, the lab leak theory of the origins of COVID-19 and claims the Hillary Clinton campaign and Obama administration officials spied on the Trump campaign come to mind.

Although Democrats profess their “concern for democracy” when it’s politically expedient, typically to discredit Republicans, the party abandoned all interest in freedom and liberty years ago. They see democracy as an obstacle to gaining and maintaining power.

In fact, many leftists believe the Constitution has become obsolete. In the clip below, progressive activist Elie Mystal, who is, ironically, a “justice correspondent” over at “The Nation,” calls the Constitution “trash.” He said, “It was written by slavers and colonists and white people who were willing to make deals with slavers and colonists. … They didn’t ask anyone that looked like me what they thought about the Constitution.”

Right now Jen, I’m deeply concerned about the very real, ongoing threats to freedom of speech in America.

  1. “The only difference between American and Russian censorship is that, because of the First Amendment, the U.S. government is forced to be more subtle. In Russia, censorship is expected. In America, it must be obscured.”

That seems to be true of an ever-increasing number of our “freedoms”.
