Back when I was young and naïve, I thought the government was benevolent and good. I grew up hearing about our country’s honorable Founders, our exceptional Founding and our unparalleled Constitution and I believed that our leaders were wise and good. By extension, I imagined our CIA and FBI to be bastions of honor and virtue. I expected our nation to remain a beacon of Democracy and Christian values to the world.
And then I grew up.
Today, I have no such delusions. I live in a world where people like me are regularly targeted by our federal government, where I am not qualified to apply to certain jobs and where major societal ills are irrationally blamed on me. This was wrong in the 1960’s and it is wrong now. The interesting thing is that during both time periods these wrongs were propagated by Democrats.
Try to put aside for a moment, for the purposes of this article, the targeting of the unvaccinated, the devastating handling of Covid, the impotent response (or lack thereof) to the BLM/Antifa riots, and many other infractions against Conservatives and common sense by our federal government. Today, I want to focus solely on the catastrophe that is the January 6th rally.
Is it a catastrophe because it was an attempted insurrection? Is it a catastrophe because domestic terrorists were able to gain purchase on a federal building? Um, no.
The January 6th rally was a catastrophe because it was the epitome of Conservative targeting by the federal government. During the Tea Party movement, I was shocked by the IRS being weaponized against Conservative organizations, yet nothing was done about it. And now, after so much information has been released about what really happened on January 6th, 2021, I am shocked by how much it looks like we were set up by the federal government.
By multiple accounts, there was a coordinated group of people working to take down and hide the fencing so the Conservatives could be readily herded up to the Capitol building without realizing access was forbidden. There were men working to incite and instruct the crowd to keep moving forward to the Capitol. In the various videos provided in the above links, you can see the typical Conservative response to efforts to get them to go to the Capitol with several people calling such provocateurs “feds.”
There were excellent examples set by Conservatives showing the common sense and unflappable honor that they used throughout this ambush. So many Conservative individuals called out this irresponsible strategy and even tried to stop physical harm from coming to the Capitol building itself. For that good deed, they are being blamed for everything.
At this point, it seems clear (so clear, that here is a video of Ted Cruz grilling the FBI about it this week) that there were federal agents or informants involved in inciting the “riot.” Like most other incidents in recent years, instead of regular citizens planning and executing a nefarious plan, it seems that government agents are planning and leading citizens to break the law in order set them up for a fall. That is not espionage, that is entrapment.
If an FBI agent had infiltrated a group of crazy people who truly wanted to harm the government and all they did was observe, gather evidence, and work to stop any attack from happening that would make sense – that would be right and good. But for FBI agents to play the part of catalyst and strategist and incite Americans to break the law is the definition of corrupt. I never dreamed that their malevolence ran so deep.
The big question is: How can you fix this? Is this what people meant when they talked about the “D.C. Swamp?” We just had a president that ran on “draining the swamp,” yet, before he was even out of office, federal agencies are entrapping his supporters? If it cannot be fixed by the leader of the country who supposedly was focusing on that very issue for four years, how can it ever be fixed? Do we wait for four more years, hoping that we can elect another Republican who will focus on the same issues of D.C. corruption? Hoping that the outcome will be different?
This country is so broken. How can it ever be fixed

It will get fixed, but at great cost. The people have let this slide for too many decades, and there will be a day of reckoning. It may not be tomorrow, or the next day, but it will come.
The idea that people were jailed, found guilty and sentenced to prison terms, while leftist anarchists were “all” allowed to go free, without even charging and trying, may stand for a while longer, but not forever.
The left is pushing even harder, after the leaked Supreme Court decision, and it will end up ushering some very unpleasant times, maybe even a civil war.
I don’t see anyway around it.
