Is the DOJ Gearing-Up for a Repeat of Their August 8 Raid on Mar-a-Lago?

In a Thursday court filing, the Department of Justice (DOJ) said they plan to appeal U.S. District Court Judge Aileen Cannon’s decision to appoint a special master to review documents seized by the FBI during their August 8 raid on former President Donald Trump’s Palm Beach, Florida, residence. This revelation surprised no one. What did surprise us, however, was the wording in the DOJ’s filing which leaves us wondering if a second raid on Mar-a-Lago may be in the cards.

The DOJ’s motion for a partial stay pending appeal stated that “the government and the public are irreparably injured when a criminal investigation of matters involving risks to national security is enjoined.” Judge Cannon’s ruling sought to prohibit the DOJ from reviewing or taking any other further action with the documents they removed from Trump’s home.

The agency argued that the injunction could “impede efforts to identify the existence of any additional classified records that are not being properly stored – which itself presents the potential for ongoing risk to national security.”

Is the DOJ setting the stage for a second raid? It sounds like the DOJ wants to make sure they retain the ability to execute another Trump raid based on their “suspicions” he could have more classified material. The filing includes no evidence for this. It simply implies that their efforts to further identify this possibility are being impeded. If they were granted the ability, it seems like they would want to “investigate” this possibility, which could mean another raid.

Thirty FBI agents armed with a broadly defined search warrant scoured Trump’s home for over nine hours on August 8. They ransacked former First Lady Melania Trump’s closet searching for documents. And last weekend, we learned they’d even scoured the room of Trump’s 16-year-old son, Barron Trump. Do they expect us to believe they might have missed additional classified material?

What are they so afraid of?

First, DOJ officials are angry over Judge Cannon’s decision to appoint a special master to review the documents, which they see as a direct rebuke to the agency’s integrity. After all, the DOJ has “taint teams,” internal prosecutors, who have no involvement in the case at hand, available to review privileged/classified documents with objectivity.

But they are especially angry over the judge’s enjoinment of the documents. This rather ties their hands in the crucial two-month period leading up to the midterm elections, just when the information could help sway votes, doesn’t it?

Although prosecutors can still leak information to the press as they’ve been doing since the raid, the documents can’t be presented as evidence in, say, a primetime proceeding of the House Select Committee on the January 6 Attack.

In other words, the DOJ and the FBI will have to figure out a different way to sway the election.

Not all Democrats oppose the appointment of a special master. George Washington University law professor Jonathan Turley, a Democrat, considers it the right decision. He has been highly critical of the DOJ’s actions and especially their leaks to the press since the raid.

Liberals are delighted by the DOJ’s bold decision to appeal Cannon’s ruling to the 11th Circuit Court of Appeals. But with seven Republicans and four Democrats, and one vacancy, they may not get the result they hope for, which would send the appeal to the Supreme Court.

This needless and unprecedented episode has highlighted the Democratic Party’s increasing weaponization of America’s top law enforcement agencies against their political opponents. The next Republican administration will have to perform a thorough housecleaning of all of these agencies to restore the fundamental right of all U.S. citizens to equality under the law.

  1. I am totally dismayed that the@NeverTrump contingent stand by staring at their shoes while the so-called Department of Justice engage in raids on, literally DOZENS of Trump allies and supporters in this full-frontal assault on The Constitution of The United States and, most especially, the entire Bill of Rights. Where are the front page, above-the-fold pieces in the WSJ RAILING against Merrick Garland and the execrable Joseph Robinette Biden for these patently unconstitutional raids on individuals who are doing nothing more than exercising their Constitutionally-guaranteed, God-given rights?

Where is former AG Bill Barr as his successor shreds the Constitution or uses it for TP? Does he seriously believe that ANYTHING done or said by Donald J. Trump rises to the level of ANY of this inquisition by Garland?

Their silence is not just deafening; IT IS APPALLING.

  2. When do the left not scream and cry about not being able to do something? This time it is MAGA anything that stands in their way, and that’s good, but it also means they will just scream and cry more. It appears Trump is the kryptonite to their superman. The DOJ will drag out any special master until the midterms has been cheated to the left’s stealing more seats. They are trying desperately to keep something from getting to the public, something that Trump de-classified and took with him as evidence.
They know this “Classified material” stuff is just nonsense. The left has something to hide.

  3. The DOJ is daft enough. Being goofy is the new normal.
They increase the resolve of Patriotic Citizens each time they do something more silly than the time before. The country / nation has seen this going on since 2016 when Hillary decided to be a fool and clown since intelligence was absent in the decision process. Trump Derangement Syndrome marches on in all its glory.

However, it’s really sad it has been this way for these 6 years – I mean no disrespect and would rather be doing something else with my time than being forced to defend MY country from people who have lost their way in life.
