I’m Finally Beginning to Understand How the Left Thinks

It was buried dozens of paragraphs down in a long story in The Philadelphia Inquirer, the indicator of the mindset that afflicts the oh-so-compassionate left in the United States:

In Philadelphia, there are no gangs in the traditional, nationally known sense. Instead, they are cliques of young men affiliated with certain neighborhoods and families.

It was a stunning thing to read. No, the Bloods and the Crips are apparently not organized in the City of Brotherly Love, so Inquirer reporters Ellie RushingJessica GriffinXimena Conde, and Chris Palmer were able to write that ridiculous sentence, in an article all about the killings which have wracked one of America’s oldest cities, founded in 1682 by the famous Quaker and proponent of peace, William Penn.

The more I think about it, the more I begin to, very slightly, understand the mindset of the left. To them, there are no really bad guys — other than evil reich-wing Republicans and pro-life advocates and committed Catholics, of course — simply unfortunate and underprivileges people, stuck in disadvantaged and ‘underserved’ communities, who would be all sweetness and light if only they were privileged to live in Chestnut Hill or Rittenhouse Square rather than Kensington or North Philadelphia.

And thus we have the police-hating, George Soros-sponsored “progressive” criminal defense lawyer now serving as District Attorney in Philadelphia, whose promises to dramatically reduce the number of people incarcerated have led to the mass shooting at Roxborough High School. The Inky managed to admit that at least one of the six boys shot — not one who was killed — was deliberately targeted, but somehow couldn’t find out more about him.

And more information was available, as Steve Keeley tweeted out what Fox 29 News had learned:

Oldest of the wounded in deadly quintuple shooting of Roxborough High School Junior varsity football players was shot last year, Law Enforcement sources tells FOX29 News. “He was a prior shooting victim last year while in the commission of carjacking an Uber driver.” He was with a 2nd carjacker and shot by the Uber driver who was armed with a legal permit to carry a concealed weapon. The teen, now wounded again, “is referenced several times for his criminal activity.” @phillypolice sources tell FOX29 News @FOX29philly

Think about that. If the information “Law Enforcement sources” gave to Fox 29 News is accurate, the thus-far unnamed 17-year-old black male victim participated in a carjacking last year and was “referenced several times for his criminal activity”, but the District Attorney didn’t have him in jail.

Let me put it bluntly: if this 17-year-old was the only one targeted by the gang “clique of young men affiliated with certain neighborhoods and families”, then the fact that the District Attorney didn’t have him already behind bars means that the Philadelphia District Attorney’s Office is directly responsible for the fact that the shooting occurred in the first place. If the District Attorney’s Office treated the 17-year-old with a long history of criminal activity leniently, then Nicholas Elizalde, 14, of Havertown, Pennsylvania, is stone-cold graveyard dead due to the negligence of Mr Krasner and his minions.

Of course, Mayor Jim Kenney, another “progressive” Democrat, and the District Attorney appeared and bemoaned the loss of young Mr Elizade, and once again called for more gun control, but no one, no one! in authority in Philadelphia seemed to understand that when six members of a “clique of young men affiliated with certain neighborhoods and families” decide that they’re going to shoot someone against whom they have a beef, gun control laws don’t mean squat to them. Rather, it’s the law-abiding Philadelphians who have been applying for license-to-carry permits in tremendous numbers, because they understand that the city has become lawless, and the police cannot protect them:

From 2017 through 2020, the number of license-to-carry applications in Philadelphia held about steady, ranging between 11,049 and 11,814 applications each year. But in 2021, 70,789 people applied for licenses to carry guns.

In other words, license-to-carry applications more than sextupled last year. And in January of this year, the number of applications continued its upward trajectory.

The only thing that stricter gun control laws would do is make it more difficult for the law-abiding people to obtain the firearms they believe they need to protect themselves from the carjackers — city carjackings just passed the 1,000 mark, more than the record of 847 in 2021, with more than three months left in the year — and “cliques of young men affiliated with certain neighborhoods and families”, but it won’t make things more difficult for the bad guys in Philadelphia.

This is the problem with liberal thought: the idea that there are bad people out there simply does not penetrate their thicker-than-Neanderthal skulls, and thus, regardless of how good or noble or well-meaning they believe themselves to be, they always wind up supporting the wrong ideas and doing the wrong things.

  1. Then, Dana, you learned how to temporarily disconnect yourself from reality, long enough to understand their ideology. Their ideology is based on a type of dystopia, where the power is all consuming at the top, and driven by untruths.
One has to disconnect from reality to understand how they think. Their thought processes are irrational, because all they want is power. They have to lie to the voter to win their arguments.

If Larry Krasner thinks that not jailing criminals is the way to go, then he himself is irrational. Letting people out, continuously, on bond, or just letting them out, is irrational, especially when the recidivism rate has gotten to be before they even serve time for the first crime. But you will never hear Krasner admitting to being irrational. He is just another elitist. They always know better than you or I.

It tells me only that they must want the chaos and problems so they can break down society faster. There is nothing rational about that, unless you are on the left. Soros has been the champion of this process for a very long time, through his Open Society nonsense, and none of that is rational.
Then look at his SOS program, where he is still trying to get Secretary of States, to do damage in elections. and that is as nationwide as everything else he has done.
Understanding them is one thing. Just don’t stay disconnected too long. They can only corrupt if they have you listening to them.
