From Good Humor to Planned Parenthood

A Reflection on Changing Values in America

As a husband and a father of six, I’ve always strived to instill traditional Catholic and conservative family values in our children. Growing up in a world where God, good parenting, marriage, and love of and history of our country were the bedrock of our communities, I’m deeply troubled by the direction our society has taken.

I remember the joy and excitement of hearing the jingle of the Good Humor ice cream truck as it rolled through the neighborhood. It was a simple pleasure, a symbol of carefree childhood and the wholesome values that defined our upbringing. Today, that innocent symbol has been replaced by something far more disturbing—the Planned Parenthood pro-choice RV, offering free abortions, vasectomies, Plan B pills, and condoms in every color of the rainbow.

How did we get here? What happened to the influence of God in our lives? What happened to the days when schools proudly taught children about faith, family, and love of country? When did we decide that the values that once united us were no longer relevant?

As a father, I take pride in the fact that five of my six children have served or are currently serving our country. They were raised with a deep respect for life, love, and the belief that we have a duty to protect and nurture the next generation. Yet, the world they’ve grown into is one where those very beliefs are under constant attack.

The shift from the Good Humor truck to the Planned Parenthood RV isn’t just about a change in what’s being offered—it’s a stark reflection of how far we’ve drifted from the values that once defined our nation. The emphasis on immediate gratification and the dismissal of life’s sanctity are signs of a deeper moral crisis that we must address.

We need to return to a society where God is welcomed back into our schools, where good parenting is valued, and where marriage and love of country are celebrated. It’s time to stand up for the values that made our nation great, to push back against the tide of moral relativism that threatens to wash away the foundations of our communities.

As parents, it’s our responsibility to guide our children, to teach them the importance of faith, family, and patriotism. We must ensure that they grow up in a world where life is cherished, where marriage is respected, and where love of country is not just a slogan but a way of life.

The Good Humor truck may be gone, but the values it represented don’t have to be. We can choose to fight for those values, to pass them on to our children, and to stand firm in our belief that with God, good parenting, and a love of country, we can restore what has been lost.

  1. The nation’s decline can directly be traced to abortion. Inconvenience to the mother is more important than the life of the child. How does a nation recover from that???
