Another Assassination Attempt on Trump: How Many More Close Calls?

The news of yet another assassination attempt on Donald Trump—former president and current candidate—landed like a gut punch. My immediate reaction spilled out in three letters: “WTF??!!” It echoed what many felt, the disbelief and shock of hearing that a lone gunman had gotten within a few hundred yards of Trump, so soon after the last attempt barely missed his life at a rally. Nine weeks ago, a bullet skimmed his ear—how was it possible that something like this could happen again?

As details emerged, the questions mounted. Everyone knows Trump’s routine—his weekend rounds of golf at Trump International Golf Club, just miles from his Mar-a-Lago estate in Florida. His movements, from home to club, are far from discreet, marked by a lengthy motorcade. It doesn’t take much to guess where he’ll be, leaving open the door for would-be assassins to lurk. The thought gnaws at you—four hours on an open golf course, endless hiding spots behind bushes, trees, fences. After the near-death brush in July, when a shooter managed to get within 150 yards of a rally stage, you’d think the Secret Service would have locked everything down. But here we are again.

This time, the gunman had nestled behind a chain-link fence, barely 300 to 500 yards from Trump, armed with an AK-47 and a Go-Pro camera, ready to record his act. The scene is chilling to picture—waiting for the former president to come into sight. And yet, somehow, it was a lone Secret Service agent, patrolling one hole ahead, who spotted the barrel of the gun. He fired first, scaring the shooter off and likely saving Trump’s life.

Give that agent his due—but don’t applaud the Secret Service as a whole. That this happened, again, feels like a catastrophic failure. How could anyone get this close, especially after what nearly happened just weeks ago? Why wasn’t the entire course secured, every inch of the perimeter guarded?

What makes it worse is the justification. Palm Beach County Sheriff Ric Bradshaw, in a press conference, explained that Trump doesn’t get the same protection as a sitting president. “He’s not in office,” Bradshaw said, “so we don’t surround the whole golf course.” Have you ever heard anything so reckless? Here’s a man who has more targets on his back than most—having ordered the assassinations of Iran’s Gen. Qassim Suleimani and ISIS leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi. That’s not to mention his Republican candidacy, which puts him front and center in an election race just weeks away, and the fact that he was shot at recently.

The real frustration lies with the Secret Service itself—meant to protect past presidents as well as current ones, they seem to be failing, and failing spectacularly. As Eric Trump pointed out, “My father’s running out of lives.” And while this latest attempt on Trump’s life might give him a political boost—just like the last time—it raises dark questions about what would happen to America if one of these attacks ever succeeded.

Somehow, Trump always manages to bounce back from these moments, turning danger into a show of strength. That much is clear. What’s less clear is how much longer luck will hold.

  1. Blackpill take: note that I am not saying this IS what happened, just how it could cynically be interpreted or play out in a Tom Clancy novel–and we all remember how eerily prescient those were.

The Blackpill would say that this one was MEANT to be found, either as a decoy to buffalo everybody right into the *real* attempt or to just shut down Trump’s end-run direct connection with his voters by saying “you can’t have any rallies, it’s too dangerous for you to leave Mar-A-Lago.” Another Blackpill possibility is a “patsy Pawn Sacrifice” to try to scrape some of the crap off USSS’s tarnished reputation and make Rowe look like “a guy who gets results” conveniently ignoring that he was THE GUY who made a lot of the decisions about resource allocation that DIRECTLY led to Butler.
