I understand where Vivek is coming from, but merit pay for teachers is a mistake. The reason is simple: it’s impossible to adequately enforce. I’ve been a teacher (preschool up to college) and understand that there is so much that goes into education than just the performance of the teacher, and most of it is out of the hands of the teacher.
The best solution is to abolish government schools… period. Then parents will gravitate to teachers and schools that produce good results and gives them the best “bang for the buck.” So-called “merit pay” is just putting lipstick on a pig. Vivek should know better.
