The shutdown. Senator Ed Markey (D-MA), “When John Thune brings that vote out tomorrow morning to open up the government….we are going to vote NO.” Senator Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), “It’s the only lever we have (working families).” And Representative Katherine Clark (D-MA, Minority Whip), “Shutdowns are terrible.Of course there will be families that are going to suffer. We take that responsibility seriously, but it is one of the few leverage items we have.”
There you have it, the once champions of working class America now hold working class Americans hostage—also the military, WIC, SNAP, the Federal Workers Union, aviation, etc. We are getting a first-hand look at the tyranny of the minority due to the 60 vote threshold—but that’s another story. And now it appears that a 34 year-old marxist/socialist promising free stuff is the Democrat spokesman.
But after the latest failed experiments of Democrat leadership, will we again give a sigh and acquiesce? But should we? Rather than condoning failed governance perhaps we should treat it as such. In the case of NYC under Mandami no one will have dignity but rather dependency. That’s the lesson that must be learned. My favorite, Ed Koch (D-NY), “The people have spoken and they must be punished.”
Tuesday night was a quasi-bloodbath for Republicans. But it occurred in predominately Blue protectorates—NJ, VA, PA, NYC. Democrats did however, flip two statewide offices in GA and MS. And the “chaos strategy” seemed to work in an off-year election. It motivated a sluggish Blue base of mainly college-educated white women. But derision and fear only works so long before people will expect you to have a plan that chooses opportunity over ideology. Not simply TDS.
I’m just an old pilot. But I do know that while aged Dems are pushed into the sunset, like Nancy D’Alesandro Pelosi, the once Party of the Big Tent is now governed by the Progressive Left. The GOP? Attend to voter dissatisfaction, keep prices down, promote economic growth, and hammer Democrat excesses. November 4th was not as bad as the MSM made it appear.
