Forty student activists have staged a hunger strike outside the U.S. Capitol building. They vow not to eat until the Senate passes voting rights legislation.
Sens. Kyrsten Sinema (D-AZ) and Joe Manchin’s (D-WV), who have been crystal clear in their opposition to eliminating the filibuster since last January, once again confirmed their positions on Thursday, ending the possibility that this dreadful legislation would pass.
Sinema told colleagues, “There’s no need for me to restate my longstanding support for the 60-vote threshold to pass legislation. There’s no need for me to restate its role in protecting our country from wild reversals of federal policy.”
Nevertheless, these misguided, indoctrinated students believe they might change Sinema’s mind by starving themselves outside the Capitol building.
Arizona State University student Brandon Ortega spoke to Fox News on Thursday. “I’m sure everyone here shares this sentiment that this hunger strike is easier to endure than the consequences of not passing this bill. This is our lives that are hanging in the balance,” he said.
He told Fox this legislation must pass because “several states have been introducing more and more voting restriction laws.” Passage would mean that “voters can freely and safely cast their ballots,” Ortega explained.
Generation Vote founder Brianna Cea told Fox: “From New York to Texas, Michigan and Florida, we’ve spoken to young people who have been forced to jump through hoops to exercise their right to vote.”
I would like to see a list of these young people who have been forced to jump through hoops to exercise their right to vote.
After reading former President Barack Obama’s preposterous USA Today op-ed last week in which he called on the Senate to fight for democracy by ending the filibuster, I had the same thought.
I call on the former president and the youth activists to lease present a list of all legal eligible voters who were disenfranchised in the 2020 election.
On Friday, Day Two of the hunger strike, Fox News spoke to Declaration for American Democracy Director Jana Morgan. She said, “Senator Sinema, I implore you to reconsider this position. You have the power to change this country for the better. You must prioritize our country’s future by choosing to protect the freedom to vote over an arcane Senate loophole.”
An arcane Senate loophole that Democrats employed hundreds of times when their party was in the minority. An arcane Senate loophole that both Biden and Obama and a majority of Democratic senators supported vigorously when it benefitted their agenda, but I digress.
On Friday, Ortega told Fox he was experiencing “hunger pains, fatigue and just general discomfort.”
He added, “We hope we won’t have to go longer than Martin Luther King Day but, we’re still committed to an indefinite hunger strike.”
According to Fox, these students staged a 15-day hunger strike In December “when President Biden said he would make voting rights a priority in the new year.”
Un-PAC co-founder Shana Gallagher Strikers told reporters at the time that the activists “experienced ‘dangerously low’ blood pressure, ‘unbearable’ headaches, and ‘upwards of 10 pounds’ in weight loss.”
Psssst! No one cares.
Dear Students:
No one cares about your blood pressure, your headaches, or your weight loss. Although going on a hunger strike or throwing a tantrum may have worked to change your parent’s mind during your adolescence, this is an ineffective approach to getting what you want in life.
Please put together a list of all legal, eligible U.S. citizens who you claim have been forced to jump through hoops to exercise their right to vote and send to Eliza.Vaughn13@gmail.com
In the meantime, I’m going to have my breakfast. I’m ravenous.
Sincerely,
Betsy Vaughn
