UN Secretary-General António Guterres said, nuclear war has “returned to the realm of the possible” as Russia issued new orders to its nuclear deterrent force as the war with Ukraine drags on. UN Secretary-General António Guterres has asked for the protection of Ukrainian nuclear forces in the wake of recent Russian attacks on nuclear power plants in Ukraine, such as a training facility outside the perimeter of the Zaporizhzhia power plant in eastern Ukraine that caught fire due to cross-border fighting. plants.
Guterres told reporters that Russian President Vladimir Putin’s decision to put its nuclear forces on full alert at the start of his attack on Ukraine was “a chilling development,” Reuters reported. Vladimir Putin, the President of Russia, wanted to remind Vladimir Putin’s opponents of the nuclear risks.
UN Secretary-General António Guterres said nuclear war is “back within the realm of possibility” as Russia gave new orders to its nuclear forces as the war on Ukraine drags on.
“Raising the alert of Russian nuclear forces is a bone-chilling development,” Guterres said while addressing media on Monday in New York. “The prospect of nuclear conflict, once unthinkable, is now back within the realm of possibility.” ‘Reporting Business Insider’
The warnings came amid growing fears that Russia’s war in Ukraine could escalate into a third world war with nuclear weapons. As Russia struggles to make gains in Ukraine, experts are expressing growing concern that President Vladimir Putin could potentially take decisive action, including using nuclear weapons, because he is cornered. Defense Secretary Ben Wallace said he could “map out a plausible chain of events” that could lead to nuclear war, which is “just a few steps to get to where we are now.”
Alexander Vershbow, NATO’s deputy secretary-general from 2012 to 2016, said Western leaders had concluded that Russia’s plans to use nuclear weapons in major crises were sincere, adding to the Kremlin’s misconception that Risk of an accident or error of war.
Some of Russia’s loose rhetoric about Russian nuclear weapons is the pinnacle of irresponsibility and goes against everything we’ve said, including what Russia has said for years that a nuclear war cannot be won, which was reiterated at a recent meeting. Again between the president and Putin – in Geneva this summer. Although the West has imposed tough sanctions on Russia, Washington said it sees no reason to change its nuclear stance.
The Secretary of State believes, first of all, that this is a reflection of the reality that even before this aggression by Russia, Ukraine would not have joined NATO tomorrow. At the same time, I must tell you that we have real fears that Russia might use a chemical agent, a weapon, another weapon of mass destruction. The downside of this would be that countries use small nuclear weapons in Ukraine and justify this as a pre-emptive strike against non-existent Ukrainian weapons of mass destruction, or claim that Ukraine did it.
In 2017, Russian state media detailed how Moscow would destroy U.S. cities and neighborhoods in the aftermath of the collapse of the nuclear treaty and purposefully bring back Cold War rivals—a shocking threat even by the extreme standards of Russian regimes. For Vladimir Putin, an escalation of the war leading to NATO membership would mean a decisive defeat in Ukraine; Planning to avoid this defeat by nuclear means could lead to massive retaliation. ‘Reporting by Yahoo.com’

It seems odd to me that the volume of ‘nuclear war fear’ talk is so great, it sounds a lot like the old saying about empty barrels making the most noise and all.
We don’t need echo chambers but we could definitely use some serious understanding of how decisions like this do, or do not get made by one or both sides. Yes, Putin has the most control of Russia’s nuclear arsenal and the army but there would have to be one helluva an escalation in Ukraine before nukes are used and I don’t see it happening, or for that matter, any reasonable scenario where Russia’s power elite would let the situation escalate that far.
How does one prepare for nuclear war?
Unless biden nukes america to start a war with RUSSIA!
