NYC Mayor Blames the Influx of Illegals on … Texas and Arizona?

The border crisis has reached New York City and Mayor Eric Adams isn’t too happy about it.

“New York has been and will always be a city of immigrants that welcomes newcomers with open arms,” Adams said in a Tuesday statement. “These very same humanitarian values apply to those who are experiencing homelessness. In New York City, we have both a moral — and legal — obligation to house anyone who is experiencing homelessness for any reason.”

Adams was referring to New York City’s “right to shelter” mandate which means that anyone who requires it has the right to emergency shelter.

The mayor claims that, “in recent weeks,” more than 2,800 “undocumented immigrants … from Latin America and other regions” have been bussed into Manhattan. This situation has overwhelmed the city’s homeless shelter system and strained its resources, Adams said. He blamed the governors of Texas and Arizona and called on the federal government to “partner with New York City as we help asylum seekers navigate this process, and to provide financial and technical resources.”

NBC News reached out to the offices of Texas Gov. Greg Abbott and Arizona Gov. Doug Ducey for comment. In separate statements, both told NBC they had bussed asylum seekers to Washington, D.C., but not to New York.

The mayor seems to have forgotten all about the Department of Homeland Security’s late-night flights of migrants into Westchester County Airport, in White Plains, New York. The Biden administration and the legacy media have tried desperately to downplay this story.

News of the secret charter flights broke in October when the New York Post published video recordings of two such landings. Citing “sources familiar with the matter,” the Post reported this had been going on since at least August.

Republican Rep. Lee Zeldin, who will face New York Gov. Kathy Hochul in the state’s upcoming gubernatorial election, also blamed the Biden administration. He told NBC: “Their weak border policy is then made worse by what amounts to a travel agency flying the illegal immigrants to destinations all across the country, including New York. The obvious consequence is that New Yorkers are now stuck dealing with the consequences. The solution is that the surge of illegal entry across our southern border needs to be shut down, the Remain in Mexico policy must be enforced.”

In an appearance on CBS News show “Face the Nation” last Sunday, Washington, D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser complained that her city’s homeless shelters were filling up with migrants seeking asylum. She has also called on the federal government for assistance.

Bowser had a rather odd take on the situation, telling host Margaret Brennan she fears that asylum seekers are “being tricked into nationwide bus trips.”

Both Adams and Bowser seem annoyed by the influx of migrants into their cities. Open borders are great, as far as they’re concerned, if the undocumented immigrants remain in Texas and Arizona. ‘Just not in our backyards, thanks.’

Outkick founder Clay Travis joined Fox News’ Jesse Watters on Wednesday night to state the obvious. “Small towns all along the Texas border and Arizona have been dealing with this for years,” he said. “And suddenly, New York and DC get a tiny fraction of the overwhelming nature that they have, because remember, we’re talking about tens of thousands of people coming across into small towns, not big cities like New York and Washington, D.C., that have massive resources to deal with substantial populations. We’re talking about some of these migrant trains, these illegal immigrants coming across that are nearly overwhelming the populations of these towns themselves, doubling overnight like we saw down in Del Rio, Texas, and beyond.”

Travis pointed out the racial angle of this story. Citing the L.A.Times’ characterization of radio host Larry Elder as the black face of white supremacy during his unsuccessful run in last summer’s election to recall California Gov. Gavin Newsom, Travis said the label would more accurately describe Adams and Bowser.

With three months left to go in fiscal year 2022, border agents have already apprehended 1.7 million migrants. The total will surely top 2 million by year-end. In fiscal year 2021, the figure exceeded 1.5 million. This means that during the first 18 months of the Biden Administration, over 3 million migrants have illegally entered the U.S. Rep. James Comer (R-KY) noted this is the equivalent of four congressional districts.

So long as liberals didn’t have to deal with these migrants, they wholeheartedly supported this administration’s open border policy. But border towns can no longer absorb the huge influx of “asylum seekers” and the government is now forced to disperse them throughout the country. We can expect the isolated complaints from progressive politicians to reach a fever pitch once that reality sinks in.

It’s possible this “not in my backyard” mindset of liberal politicians at the local level may force some sanity into this issue.

  1. One can hope, but I think that the NIMBY mindset will only bring sanity when and until the illegals are literally living in the backyards / front yards of the mayor and guv….. until then, they will ‘protest’ the presence of said illegals only in an effort to wheedle more federal money (for the assistance thing); money to squander on their “preferred” providers / vendors (read dem donor firms) who will, for their bloated fees, provide little or no assistance to the homeless illegals (and homeless citizens) of the city and state.
