Oh Kamala!

In 60 years from when I started paying attention to the state of our union, I have seen nothing like the open and notorious ineptness displayed by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris. Not even in the “dark ages” of the 60s. Is it simply incompetence by the current Administration or is it something more? And speaking of incompetence, it now must be a virtue. It must be because we’ve elected two totally incompetent people to the highest offices in the land. No one who voted for them is extolling their merits and even CNN is beginning to ask real questions.

I remember our local paper after the election. Two women in pink hats appeared wildly cheering for what I can only assume to be the new President—or probably more truthfully, the demise of 45. “Be Careful Who You Vote For,” should have been the caption. And I wondered, how could a basement dweller and a person who was rejected by her own State, have won the highest executive positions in the land?

We all know Joe’s blunders. From the national to the international, he stumbles from one screaming gaffe to a whispered one. Kind of a mix between Howard Dean and Don Vito Corleone. But what about our Veep—Kamala Harris? I guess that someone thought she’d be a Democrat Condi Rice. Boy were they wrong. Polls show she is one of the least popular VPs in modern history. High profile staff continue to leave. Politico reported that her former staffers detailed a dysfunctional office atmosphere. So what else seems the problem? I believe two things, a lack of leadership ability and her “way” with words.

The former illustrated by the Administration seemingly not trusting her after she flubbed border security and immigration. But, Joe can’t really throw stones at that glass house can he? The latter by her media interviews and speeches which are, to be kind, lacking energy, thought, and presence. Examples? She went to Highland Park, Illinois after a mass shooting. Her words to a grieving, stricken town, “We gotta take this stuff seriously, as seriously as you are, because you have been forced to take this seriously.” Seriously? OK, let’s try reading from the Declaration. “A promise we made in the Declaration of Independence that we are each ‘endowed with the right to liberty and the pursuit of happiness’.” Reading is hard. Or maybe that speed reading course should not be put to the test in public.

Ok, on to water, seems simple enough. “We need to construct places where we capture water, where we store water.” Well, perhaps we have some work to do yet. So on to the invasion of Ukraine, I think she’s gonna kill this one . She was asked on a radio show to put the Ukraine-Russia entanglement in “layman’s terms.” Said she, “So, Ukraine is a country in Europe. It exists next to another country called Russia. Russia is a bigger country. Russia is a powerful country. Russia decided to invade a smaller country called Ukraine. So, basically, that’s wrong.” Wow! The clarity is so amazing but I think perhaps she doesn’t understand how intelligent laymen are. Or who they are.

To sum up: can’t lead, can’t speak. A perfect example of what’s wrong with this Administration. In the words of George Carlin, “In America anyone can become the President. That’s the problem.”
