Federal Raids Target Top NYC Officials Amid Growing Investigation into Mayor Adams’ Administration

Federal authorities executed raids on the homes of several senior officials within Mayor Eric Adams’ administration, including NYPD Commissioner Edward Caban, on Wednesday as part of an ongoing investigation. While the U.S. Attorney’s Office has not publicly detailed the scope of the inquiry, it is believed to involve members of the NYPD. The department confirmed its awareness of the investigation and expressed its commitment to fully cooperating with authorities.

The raids also targeted the homes of First Deputy Mayor Sheena Wright and Deputy Mayor Philip Banks, with FBI agents seizing electronic devices from both. Notably, Wright shares a home with Schools Chancellor David Banks, who is Philip Banks’ brother. Additionally, Timothy Pearson, a key advisor to Mayor Adams and a former high-ranking NYPD official, had his residence searched, with electronic devices being confiscated.

In response to the raids, Mayor Eric Adams maintained a calm and collected demeanor, emphasizing his administration’s commitment to following the law and cooperating fully with the investigation. “We follow the rules and make sure to cooperate with any ongoing investigations,” Adams stated. Despite ongoing scrutiny, Adams reiterated that he was unaware of any wrongdoing within his administration and underscored the importance of transparency. When asked why his administration continues to face legal inquiries, Adams stated that he could not speculate on the matter but reaffirmed his commitment to providing any information required to prove compliance with the law.

Although specific details regarding the latest investigation remain scarce, sources familiar with the matter have indicated that the raids are not related to prior inquiries into Adams’ 2021 mayoral campaign. That investigation, which led to subpoenas in July, focused on allegations of corruption and flight upgrades during international travel. In 2023, the FBI also raided the home of Adams’ former fundraiser Brianna Suggs in connection to campaign finance concerns.

This latest round of federal action reflects the ongoing interest in the Adams administration by law enforcement authorities. Despite the increasing pressure, Mayor Adams continues to insist that his administration remains compliant with all legal requirements and fully cooperative with investigators.

Key officials involved in the raids, including Sheena Wright, Philip Banks, and Timothy Pearson, are prominent figures in public service. Wright, an attorney, has been part of the Adams administration since 2022 and was appointed first deputy mayor in 2023. Philip Banks, who joined Adams’ team in 2022 as deputy mayor for public safety, previously served as the NYPD’s chief of department. Timothy Pearson, a former high-ranking NYPD official, now serves as an advisor to the mayor.

As the investigation continues, it remains unclear what the full implications may be for the Adams administration. Federal authorities have not provided a timeline for the inquiry’s conclusion, leaving the public and officials awaiting further developments.
