“Truth to power” isn’t a trite pass at virtue signaling. It’s an observation that the names, dates, and money Basham cites make a convincing case that some big name Evangelicals and their organizations are sock puppets for Cultural Marxism. Basham calls it “the Left.” As an old Poli Sci teacher, I prefer ideological precision.
The Left in America are Human Secularist Totalitarians. They espouse Cultural Marxism by many names – DEI, CRT, BLM, Climate Change, Pro-Abortion, Covid Tyranny, LGBTQ, Trans, etc. Regardless, the ideas have a genealogy. And, they share a terrible, murderous common history. They always fail. They always oppress. They always imprison and murder. They result in the greatest mass murders in human history – about 100m dead. And, some Evangelicals are mouthing these ideas in their own syrupy sweet way.
That’s not something to scoff at as merely “politics in the pulpit.” Megan Basham illustrates how the snake is in the hen house. It’s time for the Reformed Church to renew its Reformation or maybe borrow from another tradition and do an Inquisition. Either starts with pounding the theses on the church door. Again.
Magan Basham’s “95 Theses” boil down to disputations on climate change, illegal immigration, abortion, Christian media, Covid-19 tyranny, Critical Race Theory, sexual misconduct followed by cover ups, and homosexuality and Trans.
She shows the false teachers in their own words. She names names. She follows the money.
It could only be better for laymen if she put together graphics. Put a chart together with the names of Evangelicals, Christian organizations, Leftist persons and organizations, amounts of money, dates, and outcomes. Such a visual would provide a good perspective. Not all the shepherds are the same in shame nor are the threats to the flock of His sheep the same.
The discussion of political vs spiritual conviction is important. The accusation that “Social warriors become political party sycophants” is applicable to Leftists and Conservatives alike. It is also fundamentally wrong for many, many Christians.
A Christian who puffs themselves up and proclaims absolute fealty to either Donald Trump or Kamala Harris based on their Christian faith, reminds me of the people on both sides of the Vietnam War. Way back then, at age 20, I determined that politics isn’t informed by faith. No, politics is determined by worldview. Worldview presents options for Christian cherry-picking of Scripture to justify their politics. I know many learned and devout people disagree.
Many Christians have a Leftist worldview. They agree with the evolved ideas of the French Revolution. They don’t know or would dispute being Human Secularist Totalitarians, but they are. I’ve often written about them as useful fools for the Left or Islamist Totalitarians. Apostate often applies. Sissy Christians is a good double entendre.
The “Christian” Left is the advance guard of the long march of Cultural Marxism through the seven institutions which define American culture and Civilization. The Left dominates Government – including the military, Education, Business, Media, Arts and Entertainments. The Left is fighting hard to conquer and destroy the Family and Religion as institutions. Evangelical Christianity is the greatest bastion in the defense of Christianity and Western Civilization in America. We are allied with Conservative Catholics and Orthodox, as well as believing Jews. Consequently, Megan Basham nails it on how Evangelicals are the target of big, big money and bad, bad ideas.
The New Testament Church, so alive today, must call out its false teachers.
Acts 20:28-30, KJV:
28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.
29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.
30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.
