So, RINO extraordinaire Dick Cheney has followed the lead of his daughter and endorsed a candidate for President who supports the slaughter of unborn babies and the genital mutilation of children… not to mention war and more war.[1] But this is hardly surprising, for the Republicans have been chalked full of Republicans in Name Only (RINOs) for many decades.
But now, they are more obvious and visible.
Almost 35 years ago, I was still cutting my teeth on electoral politics at the state and local levels. At the time, I was helping a staunchly conservative candidate for State Senate in supposedly “conservative” New Hampshire. In particular, he was uncompromisingly prolife. What I learned, to my surprise at that time, was that a number of well-heeled Republicans refused to support my candidate against the Democrat after he won the primary.
These were called “Blue-blood Republicans,” because of their wealthy genetic stock from which they came. They were the inheritors of the Republican Party of Theodore Roosevelt and Nelson Rockefeller, the party of the wealthy elite who want average people to serve their interests, and not the interests of the nation at large. Indeed, the term RINO was popularized in New Hampshire at this time, and I still have a button with a rhinoceros printed on it, with the “anti” red slash symbol superimposed over it.[2]
Us older folks surely can recall all the talk about the Republican Party being the “big tent.” That they would allow within the Party a wide range of opinions on many issues, unlike that evil, monolithic Democrat Party.[3] But that was just blabber, for when the chips were down these same “big tent” Republicans would readily jump ship to support the leftist Democrat if the Republican candidate wasn’t “their guy.”
Simply put, RINOs demanded that conservatives, especially Christians, should support their compromised, pro-abortion (i.e. baby killing) candidates, but when the shoe was on the other foot, they refused to support the prolife candidates, demanding that conservatives take the back seats of the “big tent” Republican bus.
This was all done at the local level, and was not too visible to the average person. But now, in the 2020s, this has become glaringly obvious.
The RINOs have at last come out of the closet for all to see.

[3] I never call them the “Democratic Party,” for there is nothing democratic about that institution. Hence, I refused to give them that title.
