Proud to Be an American

Recently, someone posted a Meme that said, “For the first time in four years, I am proud to be an American.”  This mimics Michelle Obama’s statement that when her husband was elected, she was proud to be an American for the first time.  (What a damning condemnation of the woman who was our First Lady!)  The last four years have been hard.  I understand the sentiment behind that Meme, but I think the poster was misguided. Yes, our political “leaders,” elitists, celebrities, and corrupt media have called conservatives fascists, Nazis, a host of “ists,” and other names.  Our President even called us “garbage.”  I have decided that I will no longer let the America haters (both external and mostly internal) erode my pride in the United States.

I have often complained that I spent 30 years wearing the uniform of an Army that no longer exists, in service of a nation that no longer exists. When I grew up, we recited the Pledge of Allegiance each morning and were taught American greatness and Exceptionalism, which President Obama publicly rejected. When Obama denigrated the nation he was supposed to lead, I took down my American flag because I felt that nation no longer existed.

Under Obama and Biden, the Army has become a cesspool of wokeness destroying readiness led by posers cosplaying as warrior leaders.  The nation has rushed headlong toward Marxism and Fascism over the last two Democrat administrations. We have become embroiled in numerous wars that are none of our business.  The left has successfully divided us into easily controlled and manipulated tribes based on unimportant characteristics like skin color and sex.  The bloated Federal government has grown increasingly overreaching and tyrannical.  The government has sought to censor and abridged our rights frequently.  Our schools teach our students that our cherished institutions are evil and must be destroyed when they should be teaching math, English, and science.  Race was rightfully becoming a non-issue until Obama’s regime.  Biden’s administration weaponized the government against his political opponents and the people.  Our foreign policy is a laughingstock on the world stage.  Through all that, however, the basket of “deplorables” remained loyal to the guiding principles that made us great but are now vilified by a broken and corrupt education system.

After the 2020 election, I considered emigrating, like all those celebrities pretend they are doing now.  It wasn’t because Biden won.  I served under several presidents I considered to be anti-American poltroons and fools.  (Though none seemed to hate America as much as the Biden-Harris junta.)  My issue in 2020 was not the outcome but the apparent shenanigans.  Unlike the Left since November 5th, I can live with the choice of the people without accusing the people of being Nazis and “ists” — if the result of the election is the will of the people and not a result of bags of cash from woke billionaires and hundreds of thousands of votes arriving in the middle of the night.  I cannot tolerate corrupt elections.  Our Constitution and our free elections are cornerstones of our national greatness.

I cannot tolerate our elected officials denigrating and working to destroy and circumvent the Constitution and our institutions.  Those dead white guys who wrote the Constitution got just about everything correct, except they assumed that Congressmen and the President would be honorable men more interested in their country than themselves.  We have all seen that, with rare exceptions, that is not true!  The Bill of Rights defines those things that the government CANNOT do.  Instead of our government respecting those fundamental limitations on governmental power, the recent junta did as much damage to those rights as possible in four years.  Our unaccountable bureaucracy and elected officials have worked to control and censor the people rather than protect and enable them.  We no longer have servant leaders running the country; we have an administrative state that seeks to control the people.

Biden was 100% wrong when he yelled at a factory worker, “I don’t work for you.”  That reflected an arrogance that is unconscionable in a President!  Our government DOES work for “we the people.”  We don’t work for them.  We don’t prosper through their benevolence.  Mr. President, Congress, and swamp bureaucrats, you DO work for us!!

In 2020 and over the past four years of the elitist woke cabal, we have all watched our country look increasingly like a banana republic.  I looked at several countries to emigrate but convinced myself that the United States remains the greatest country on the planet — albeit significantly diminished under the past two Democrat regimes. On 4 November, I predicted a Harris victory due to the media’s lies and control over access to information.  Despite being abused by our government, the American people saw through the lies of the media and politicians on November 5th.

While the attitudes, ignorance, and behavior of very many Americans make me ashamed, my pride in being an American remains.  Let’s not let the machinations of America haters continue to erode our faith in America.  We have been and remain the greatest country the world has ever known.  We can recognize our recent setbacks and work to make America strong, prosperous, and powerful again.  Despite adversity, Americans should never lose pride in American exceptionalism.
