Scott Jacobson: Why Gulf of America?

I recently tried to answer this for someone else, so I thought I would post it here, for broader consumption.
WHY ‘GULF OF AMERICA’?
A fair question, for anyone not in the business of oil production, shipping, recreational boating, cruise ship travel, scientific expedition, border control, and the defense of it all.
The suggested name change mostly has to do with the massive expense the U.S.A. (you and I) bares, for all of this, in association with the Gulf.
There’s expense for ships, manpower, the support for all of them (food, pay, oil, fuel, ammo, communications, radar, sonar…).
The U.S.A. assures security of trade, recreation, drilling for oil, and more recently; adding security to our borders via the U.S. Coast Guard.
And Piracy in the gulf is not dead, nor is the drug trade. Search it up. These cost BILLIONS each year, of yours and my money.
The price tag for all is massive.
Also, geopolitically, the Chinese are trying to gain a foothold in the area, and proxy control of the Panama Canal.
