American Christianity is about Christ and…

American Christianity is about Christ and more. Much more. Because without Christianity the “much more” becomes much less – and actually devolves to awful. So Christianity is about more than you, your salvation for life after death and a better life living. Christianity is about Christ and your family. And your community. And your state. And your country. And your civilization. Family, community, state, country and civilization are much, much less without vibrant Biblical Christianity. Christianity is about “Christ and…”

Christianity “is about” means Christianity is necessary. Vital. Inseparable. Essential. Required. Defining. Consequently, the absence of Christianity results in ruin for family, community, state, country, and civilization.

While the gospel of Jesus Christ is still going to the ends of the earth, it has transformed three and is contending in another of the eight living civilizations in the world today. The late Samuel Huntington names our extant civilizations as the West, Latin America, Orthodox, African, Hindu (India), Japan, Sinic (Chinese), and Islam.

The West, Latin America, and Orthodox civilizations are what they are because of Christianity.

You are who you are because of your civilization.

Culture Commands.

An individual can think anew, but the boundaries of everything you know are set by your worldview. Your world view – using the marvelous German word “Weltanschauung” – is yours by age five. You are part of a culture and the civilization it shaped.

You learn, you grow, you think – therefore you are you. You experience, and you believe as an individual. And, always it is in the context of your specific part of the culture and civilization. As Huntington wrote in “The Clash of Civilizations” everyone on the planet has multiple identities in comparison to another person they are.

Borrowing from Huntington again, an American citizen from Los Angeles might identify as his family name, a UCLA or Dodgers’ fan, an Angeleno, a Californian, a Catholic, a Christian, a Mexican-American, a lawyer, a Republican, a Conservative, a man, American, and a Westerner. His identities co-exist. They all matter to him.

This man’s identities, his life, and the lives of his children and theirs for all time imaginable will come to a crashing halt and terrible end if the US loses a global war to the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) or if Western Civilization succumbs to Islam.

Set aside the likely Great War of the 21st Century – which could be averted – and consider the inexorable, on-going, truly endless wars between Islam and every other Civilization.

The conflict that began with Mohammed’s first mass murder of Jews in 627 AD has never stopped. The long, long clash of civilizations has its own complexities with warring with Islam itself as well as the great ebb and flow Islamic conquests. Yet, the threat remains clear.

Islam is the enemy of Western Civilization.

Western Civilization can’t survive, let alone win, without America.

Any American who supports Islam as an ideology is a domestic enemy of the U.S. Because, Islamic law, Sharia, is a clear and present danger to the U.S. Constitution.

Islam is a pervasive identity and Totalitarian ideology which includes a backward, barbaric religion. That religion could be tolerated in the U.S. when the Koran and Hadith are as meaningless to individual Muslims as the Bible is to Episcopalians. Until that condition is established permanently, Islam is a threat to America. An inherent, implacable enemy for Americans.

Yet, American Christians are called to evangelize to the enemy within the gates. We should do that as individuals. Love one another to Christ.

As church bodies of Christ we have a more complicated charge.

Christianity is universal in its promise. Yet, Christianity is cultural in its application.

The West, Orthodox, Latin America, and much of Africa are what they are because of Christianity.

American Christian churches, as Eric Metaxas addressed in his “Letter to the American Church”, must preach Christ and culture.

Americans should be about the Word of Christ and ascribe courageously to the sub-cultures of their community, state, and region. (States in the U.S. are part of still very relevant regional sub-cultures). That’s not to the exclusion of newcomers but welcoming to their assimilation into all the identities they can share in common.

For example, Southern Baptists should NOT drop “Southern” from their title. The word “Southern” localizes the organization of the denomination, but neither its origin – early church of the Bible – nor the object of its mission – the whole world.

Furthermore, the Southerners’ shared heroism of fighting and the hardships of losing our worst war as well as the generations of grinding poverty and isolation to follow were the crucible which made Southern Baptists the steeled Evangelicals, the leading Protestants, and devout Christians all about Christ.

Also, Americans should be about the Word of Christ and Country. That isn’t the Liberal’s boogey man of Christian Nationalism or Theocracy, but the worldview of the American Revolution. If America isn’t vigorously Christian and a safe home for Jews, then it stops being America.

American Christians: Be about “Christ and…”

More to follow, especially being about Christ and Western Civilization.
