Semantics

Many times, I find myself in discussions with another where we might both be on the same page but end up comparing apples to oranges. In most cases, the difficulty with social intercourse is due to either a misunderstanding due to definitions, foreign language translations or unfamiliarity of certain terms. Some organizations, such as our military, coin their own characterizations of words to fit a particular situation such as: kill the enemy became service the enemy (does that mean change his oil?).

The bible, as a historical accounting of humanity, is a history passed – verbally – for thousands of years before the first recording devices preserved, albeit based on the recorder’s bias, these stories. The people passing these events along did not have a dictionary and thus the meaning of word/terms most likely changed over time. Is it: Thou shalt not Kill … or is it Murder?

If a tree falls in a forest and there is no one there to hear it; does it make a sound? It depends on the definition of sound.

The road to Hell is paved with good intentions: the definition of good being in the mind of the observer…as is MAGA…Heaven…G-d….
