Lawfare: The strategic use/misuse of legal systems and principles to achieve political and/or ideological objectives. The term mergers “law” and “warfare” and have come to mean, in a political context: Weaponization of the legal system to target political opponents utilizing prosecutions or investigations that not only cause citizen concern, but enormous financial costs to the defendant.
For decades the Democrats used this tactic of expending taxpayer dollars in their attempt to demoralize firearm owners and bankrupt firearm makers. Beginning in 2015, it was used as a political weapon to persecute and prosecute Trump – even before he was sworn in. His personal cost of litigation was enormous but not as high as the damage to the American justice system’s creditability. One significant reason he lost the 2020 election – voters were waiting for the results of all the charges brought against him.
By 2024, it was clear that those charges, impeachment efforts and a rigged judicial system were political – Lawfare. Now, the liberal media is claiming the Justice Department should be depoliticized. If/when the Democrats once again gain control of any of the branches of government does anyone believe they will NOT resume their political Lawfare attacks against Republicans?
