Blowing smoke up people’s ….
Joe Biden was in Sioux Falls last Friday; he spoke at the South Dakota Democrat Party State Convention. South Dakota media have been competing with each other in producing puff-pieces about his appearance. That’s nothing new because what passes for “major media” in this state are reflexively pro-Democrat despite the fact that 52% of the registered voters in South Dakota are Republicans (a paltry 22% are registered Democrats with the rest independents, third parties, or “no party affiliation”). No wonder their readership/subscriptions have been in the tank for years!
For example, the Sioux Falls Argus-Leader – once the state’s overwhelmingly dominant newspaper – has seen its paid subscribers continue to shrink since being bought by Gannett/USA Today Network from the Speidel newspaper chain in 1977. The current print edition is down from ~5,769 weekday / ~7,239 Sunday in 2024 city filings to ~5,411 combined print/digital replicas in 2025. With their continuing leftward editorial trends (i.e., pro-woke, pro-LGBTQI+, and pro-Democrat priorities in general), no wonder some people refer to it as the “Argus-Liar” and get their news elsewhere.
Your scribe was not in the room for the big speech at the Best Western Plus Ramkota, but I was indeed there as a protest-of-one “welcoming” Democrats into the parking lot. More on that later. Thus, since no transcript seems to be available of what the teleprompter presented for him to read, I will rely on some of the published media quotes to set the record straight.
Let’s get started.
PLATITUDES VERSUS REALITY
From the Argus-Leader on 6 June:
1. In difficult times, Biden said, his dad told him, “Joey, get up. Just get up and fight.”
Reality: he quit after exposing his infirmities and getting wiped out by President Trump in the first presidential debate of the 2024 campaign. What a joke!
2. “We can do this, I promise you,” he said to a standing ovation. “To all of us who are disheartened, it’s time to get up and continue to fight.”
Reality: yes, Democrats are “disheartened” that Americans turned away from their anti-American woke/DEI, open borders, in-your-face pro-LGBTQI, weaponizing government against political enemies, and defund the police policies in 2024. The general election this year will be a choice election, with the contrast between the two political parties the greatest since the Nixon-McGovern years. How many South Dakotans want to go back to Biden’s woke nonsense and open borders?
3. Speaking of Goerge McGovern, according to the Argus-Leader, Biden called McGovern “The Father of the Democratic Party” while commending his “forceful stand against the Vietnam War.”
Reality: McGovern was trounced by Nixon in 1972. As noted here, “Richard M. Nixon won reelection in the biggest Republican presidential landslide of the Cold War, getting 60.7 percent of the vote compared to Democrat George McGovern’s 37.5 percent. He won the electoral votes of every state except Massachusetts.” He deserved the thrashing because his “Vietnam resistance” in the forefront of the Democrat Party handed 20 million South Vietnamese to communist North Vietnam on a platter (and soon after by ~8 million Cambodians under the Khmer Rouge) after the Democrat Party pulled the rug out from under South Vietnam in 1975. Afterward the election shellacking, McGovern became the “little boy who was seen and not heard from” for the rest of his life. He certainly was ignored by the Democrat Party in all subsequent presidential campaigns and national Democrat Party Conventions. Ask just about any Democrat under age 45 if they agree that McGovern is “the father of their Party.” Most don’t even know who he was. Only the SD Democrat Party keeps the McGovern flame alive.
4. South Dakota party chair Shane Merrill called Biden “a statesman” like McGovern once was.
Reality: that was some serious comic relief! Merrill is apparently unaware that Biden’s record as a “stateman” is as anti-American as any major Democrat is these days (the below are just some lowlights over the decades):
- On April 25, 1975, Biden was one of 17 senators (out of 92 voting) who voted against the Vietnam Contingency Act of 1975 (S. 1484) to continue providing US aid to South Vietnam.
- In the 1980s, he opposed key elements of Reagan’s military buildup against the Soviet Union: Biden criticized large defense spending increases, the Strategic Defense Initiative (“Star Wars”), and related policies.
- In El Salvador’s civil war (against the leftist FMLN guerrillas), Biden opposed unqualified U.S. military aid to the right-wing junta. Note that the anti-communist president of the country is Nayib Bukele who transitioned to power after the FMLN and external supporters in Cuba and elsewhere were thwarted.
- In the 1990s, he opposed the 1991 Gulf War authorization initially.
- After voting for the 2002 Iraq War Authorization (AUMF), he later called it a mistake in judgment.
- He supported the JCPOA deal and the “pallets of cash” sent to Iran that furthered the IRGC’s nuke and ballistic missile research and development.
- His weakness (i.e., a direct lack of statesmanship) led to the Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022.
- He botched the 2021 Afghanistan withdrawal (leaving billions of dollars of US equipment for the Taliban and communist Chinese to exploit).
5. During his 23-minute speech that opened the night, Biden spoke of “shameless corruption” and “sheer cruelty” under the current administration.
Reality: this was perhaps his most astounding statement of all. He must think that people have forgotten the decades of Biden family corruption that he led during which time he was the front man for a grift that touched Ukraine, communist China, and other countries. As just one example among many, a business partner of Hunter Biden, Devon Archer, testified in July 2023 that the Biden family “brand” in business derived its punch from Joe Biden’s political power, and that Hunter Biden — who was paid approximately $1 million annually despite lacking sector experience — put his father on speakerphone during business meetings on numerous occasions. Republicans traced more than $20 million in profits from foreign deals that ended up in the bank accounts of Biden family members, including the president’s granddaughter. And as far as the “sheer cruelty” remark, his administration’s relentless prosecution of J6 protestors led a number of them being placed in pre-trial solitary-like confinement for MONTHS without facing charges (violating their 5th, 6th, and 8th Amendment rights). Now THAT is some “sheer cruelty” being practiced against American citizens!
6. “But we can be stronger, wiser and more resilient,” said the 46th President of the United States and former Vice President to Barack Obama. “We can bring the country back from the brink, and we can’t give up now. There is no quitting in South Dakota.”
Reality: sorry, Joe; we did that in 2024 when President Trump literally did “bring the country back from the brink” of a looming Democrat-run totalitarian state! Democrats love to call President Trump “fascist” or “nazi” these days. They also practice projection all the time by accusing their opponents of the very thoughts, motives, behaviors, or flaws that they themselves possess or exhibit. We’re not going back to that nonsense, Joe!
CONCLUDING THOUGHTS
Here is a chaser from a South Dakota Searchlight article on 5 June:
“The very democracy is at stake,” Biden said.
Reality: the Democrats have been bleating “save our democracy” as political propaganda for years now. Fortunately, it is just about past its “sell-by” date just like other past Democrat slogans. For example, everyone knows that when a Democrat screams “racism” that he has run out of any real arguments to make on a given topic. Similarly, many Americans have figured out that “saving our democracy” really amounts to Democrat-speak (George Orwell-speak?) for “saving the Democrat Party by any means possible (including through illegalities).” As in, saving Democrat hegemony in California by counting ballots weeks after elections – as is ongoing now in the gubernatorial and LA mayoral races in California. Ballot harvesting with no verification protections whatsoever is also convincing many Americans that an older Democrat slogan that they are “the Party of fairness” is just about as bogus as any of their narratives!
And speaking of bogus, that pretty much defines the autopen non-president in every way.
The end.
Addendum: Here’s a summary of what I witnessed as a protest-of-one on Friday night.
Several subspecies of Democrats pulled into the Ramkota parking lot as I protested with a sign that simply said “Worst Ever!” (with a picture of a pen):
1. Karens who made faces, raised their noses, and then turned into the parking lot.
2. White-haired old ladies who stared blankly without emotion before pulling into the lot. Probably shocked that someone was protesting them, as opposed to the reverse.
3. Type B males who looked like they wanted to say something but were too afraid to do so.
4. A couple of extremist women who dressed in garish colors that clashed bigly, who asked if I was a “billionaire” (the latest Democrat cliché). I replied that I was a volunteer protestor unlike Democrat protestors who are all paid. They screamed like banshees as they sped away.
5. One guy who yelled CNN/MSNBC cliches about Trump, E. Jean Carroll, and Epstein like a lunatic.
It was actually kind of fun confronting these fools.
There were a LOT of non-attendees who drove through Mason Street and gave me a thumbs-up and/or shouted “way to go!” as they were passing. And I even have new respect for North Dakotans, as one ~10-year-old kid in the back seat of an SUV with ND plates stuck his head out and gave an enthusiastic thumbs-up and big smile while his mother driving in front laughed. There is hope for the future!
