The Trump administration has a record of accomplishment. Many Republicans are not talking about it.
As the mid-term elections are two weeks away, with many states conducting early voting, countless people are wondering how it will end. The answer is simple, you’ll know after the results are counted. At least we hope so.
Now I’ve heard many smart people saying Donald Trump has become a drag on the Republican party. It is set pattern the party holding the presidency loses Congressional seats in the mid-term elections. A major reason is the president is not up and countless voters are unmotivated to come out. There have been exceptions (2002, 2014). Will 2026 be one? Remains to be seen.
One thing that is on the GOP’s side is President Trump is out campaigning. Trump knows he can bring out the GOP voters who elected him and the other MAGA members in the Congress. He knows if the GOP loses one or both houses, his presidency will be hamstrung if not over, and this is his final campaign. While there are issues (chief among them fuel prices and the Iran war), there are also achievements the GOP can run on.
I’ve posted before on accomplishments I’ve been very happy to see with the president, and hopefully these leads to victory in two weeks. Here are some more.
- The Border. Can’t say it enough, the US southern border is secured and the daily encounters have dropped from 10, 000-12, 000 daily to less than 400. Over four states. In less than two years, over 3 million illegal aliens have departed or been deported. For the first time in 50 years, we have a net negative migration into the US. DC politicians (both parties) said for ages the border could not be secured. For the first time in my life it is, with no new legislation. Just enforcing the law.
- In the last year, fentanyl overdoses have dropped by 22%. Fentanyl is such a powerful opioid that it takes only 2 mg to be fatal. Securing the border, as well as intercepting the ships at sea has made it harder to bring drugs into the country. We’ll never completely eradicate this menace, but we are making progress. Without question, thousands are alive today that would have been dead two years ago.
- Reportedly H1V visa holders are departing, which will open up employment opportunities for Americans. The program’s stated purpose is to allow US companies to temporarily use foreigners to fill positions for which there are not citizens available. Abuse of the system has become rampant, as many have overstayed their visas. In the most egregious example, Disney (yes, that funny rat) hired lower cost foreigners to replace their American staff. The citizens were required to train their replacements or they would lose severance pay. Thankfully publicity forced Disney see the error of their ways and it was stopped. Hopefully fewer foreign workers competing with American labor will increase wages.
- A dream of mine for decades. During the Obama years, I read an article (National Review I think) on how the one area in the US that never has a soft economy was the suburbs of our nation’s capital. There were always new homes being built, new shopping centers, new entertainment amenities, always getting better. For a group of people who produce nothing. I remember Obama telling then Speaker of the House John Boehner that he had handled employment in the private sector and we needed to increase the public sector. And he did. That just disgusted me. But since January 2025, the capital bureaucracy has lost over 72, 000 positions. For the first time in my life, these people have to face the reality of many other Americans. The government was targeting multiple US industries (energy, firearms, ammunition) and they were losing positions. Now the officials who expected lifetime employment are dealing with the reality their fellow citizens deal with every day. They can lose their jobs if their employer goes under a reduction in force. Not being able to sell their homes or selling at a loss. Not trying to sound cruel, but DC officials needed reality therapy.
Hopefully the voters who put the Republicans in office turn out in two weeks. The choice could not be starker. The border, crime, narcotics, energy production to name a few issues. The Democratic party wants to change the United States into Venezuela, Cuba, or worse yet California. That cannot be allowed. As Ronald Reagan said, if we lose freedom here, we have nowhere else to go.
