Chelsea Clinton’s Abortion Math Is Messed Up

When it comes to the abortion debate, the lunatic leftists keep changing their arguments, but they always arrive at the same conclusion: “We want to be able to terminate our unborn, whether it makes sense or not. Oh … and we’re the people of science and logic. So there.”

Thirty years ago, the left was arguing that abortions should be “safe, legal, and rare” (per Bill Clinton’s 1993 inaugural address). According to Guttmacher research, now Americans are aborting over 1.1 million babies per year. That “rare” argument didn’t stand the test of time very well, did it?

The first goal post move after “safe, legal and rare” shifted the argument to one of confidentiality. The lefties said, “Abortion is a private medical matter between a patient and her doctor.” Now women are sporting “I had an abortion” T-shirts. Planned Parenthood even sold the shirts as commemorative souvenirs. So much for HIPPA argument.

Next, “my body my choice” became all the rage. But that argument started falling apart when Joe Biden declared “your body is his choice” with his vaccine mandate, and his pals on the left remained silent. The rationale went completely in the dumpster when a California couple ordered their surrogate to get an abortion against her will. Not a single “my body my choice” nut donned her pink vagina hat to protest in the streets for the surrogate’s right to choose.

Well now that all the left’s principled arguments for abortion have fallen apart, Chelsea Clinton has come to the rescue with an economic argument. Speaking at a “Rise Up for Roe” gathering in New York City, Clinton said:

American women entering the labor force from 1973 to 2009 added $3.5 trillion to our economy. The net, new entrance of women — that is not disconnected from the fact that Roe became the law of the land in January of 1973.

Her argument is that since Roe v Wade freed women to work rather than rear, the United States is 3.5 trillion bucks richer than it would have been – had the Supreme Court bothered to read the Constitution before it declared abortion a human right in 1973.

But Ms. Clinton’s abortion pitch only proves she’s as morally bankrupt as Merrick Garland, and as economically dishonest as Paul Krugman.

Here’s a test to decide if extinguishing a human life can be justifiably warranted. According to the Cato Institute, since Lyndon Johnson declared a war on poverty in 1965, the United States has spent over 30 trillion dollars on welfare – 8.6 times what Chelsea claims the benefit of abortion is. So, why don’t we just abort welfare recipients, rather than put them on the public dole? It would be a huge economic boon, wouldn’t it? Of course, the answer to that question is obvious. We don’t do it because it would be wrong. Life has inherent value, and to suggest otherwise is a level of denial approaching certifiable.

But Ms. Clinton wants to take an actuary approach to valuing human life, because that’s the morality which her parents instilled in her. Okay, I’m an engineer. I can do numbers too. I’ll play along.

The error in Ms. Clinton’s calculation is obvious to anyone who passed middle-school algebra. There are two sides to every equation. Clinton is accounting for the women who entered the workforce, but she forgot to account for the people who didn’t – those who were aborted before they became productive adults.

According to the Guttmacher research cited above, 63 million abortions have been performed in the US since Roe v Wade. That is 63 million people who never entered the workforce, earned a wage, or contributed to the economy.

According to a PubMed Central study, the average American will contribute between 1.5 and 2.3 million dollars to the economy, throughout their working life. If we take the low end of that range, and apply it to the number of people abortionists removed from the future workforce, we find that the American economy has been denied a staggering 94.5 trillion dollars – the equivalent of the gold in 144 Fort Knox’s. That’s what those millions of aborted babies would have eventually contributed had their mothers chosen life over convenience.

Now, I’m not a Nobel level economist like that NY Times guy, but if my engineering school math is correct, the damage done to our economy by the abortion industry is about 27 times greater than the upside which Chelsea claims. Perhaps she should take some remedial math before she balances her checkbook next month. Hint for Chelsea: You need to subtract the checks you wrote, not just add the deposits you made.

If those 63 million Americans had been allowed to grow up and enter the workforce, imagine how different our country might be. How many more geniuses would we have to solve the mysteries of the universe? How many more philosophers would we have to solve the mysteries of man? How many more artists would we have to enrich our lives?

But I promised to counter Chelsea with math. So, if our economy was 94.5 trillion dollars richer

  • Could our budget be balanced now?
  • Could our national debt be paid off now?
  • Could Medicare and Social Security be secure now?
  • Would every American benefit from that extra quarter of a million bucks, each would have in his/her pocket?

Abortion is both a stain on our souls and a drag on our economy. Thank God Donald Trump ended the Clinton dynasty before Chelsea could bring her reasoning, or her principles, to the Oval Office.
