Dear Senator Sanders,
You know what’s fascinating? When someone spends their entire career railing against the wealthy elite while embodying EVERY SINGLE CHARACTERISTIC of the oligarchy they claim to oppose. Let me walk you through why you, Bernie Sanders, are the PERFECT MODEL of what an American oligarch looks like. This isn’t going to be a short Twitter rant, Senator – this is a comprehensive examination of your decades-long performance as the world’s most successful oligarch cosplaying as a man of the people.
THE COMMUNE THAT COULDN’T HANDLE BERNIE
Let’s start at the beginning, shall we? In 1971, you visited the Myrtle Hill Farm, a hippie commune in northeast Vermont. According to Kate Daloz’s book “We Are As Gods,” you were 30 years old, supposedly researching an article on natural childbirth for the Liberty Union Party’s newsletter.
But here’s where it gets interesting, and I mean REALLY interesting: It took the commune residents exactly THREE DAYS to figure out what the American people took DECADES to understand. You were kicked out. EXPELLED. Asked to leave. By HIPPIES. Let that sink in for a moment.
These were people who believed in group marriage, chanted support for the Vietcong, named their outhouse the “Richard M. Nixon Memorial Hall,” and discussed the possibility of violent revolution. These were folks so committed to communal living that they ate afterbirth and blew hunting horns to celebrate childbirth. And even THEY couldn’t stand you for more than three days.
Why? Because while everyone else did the backbreaking labor of running a farm – planting, harvesting, maintaining buildings, cooking, cleaning – you sat around engaging in what Daloz describes as “ENDLESS POLITICAL DISCUSSION.” One resident, Craig, “resented feeling like he had to pull others out of Bernie’s orbit if any work was going to get accomplished that day.”
Think about that. A socialist commune, the EPITOME of “from each according to his ability, to each according to his need,” figured out in 72 hours that you wanted to take according to your need but contribute absolutely nothing according to your ability. They politely asked you to move on after the allotted three days. Even the most idealistic communists in Vermont couldn’t make Bernie Sanders work.
Here’s Quinn’s Law #1 in perfect action: “Liberalism always generates the exact opposite of its stated intent.” You went to a commune to learn about collective living and proved definitively why socialism fails – because eventually you run out of other people willing to do the work while you sit around talking about theory.
THE MILLIONAIRE “SOCIALIST”
Fast forward from 1971 to 2026, and let’s examine what “fighting oligarchy” looks like in practice.
You have a net worth between $2.5-3 MILLION. You own THREE HOMES:
- Your main residence at 221 Van Patten Parkway in Burlington, Vermont (purchased 2009)
- A townhouse in Washington D.C. (purchased 2007 for $488,000)
- A $575,000 vacation home on Lake Champlain in North Hero, Vermont (purchased 2016)
You’ve made $2.5 MILLION in book royalties since 2011. In 2018 alone, you reported more than $390,000 in book royalties. You earn $174,000 per year as a Senator, and you’re entitled to a $73,000 annual federal pension for life. To generate $73,000 per year in risk-free income would require approximately $2.9 MILLION in capital at current rates.
Now, you’re not the wealthiest politician – Rick Scott has you beat by a country mile at $300+ million, and Mark Warner sits pretty at $215 million. But here’s the thing, Bernie: THEY DON’T SPEND EVERY WAKING MOMENT LECTURING AMERICA ABOUT THE EVILS OF WEALTH ACCUMULATION.
They’re not out there with their sidekick AOC on a “Fighting Oligarchy Tour” while sitting on multiple properties and millions in the bank. They don’t call billionaires “immoral” while enjoying the lifestyle of the top 1-2% of Americans. They’re not completely befuddled when people point out this GLARING HYPOCRISY.
Quinn’s Law #7: “It’s different when you are a Democrat; things conservatives are condemned for are merely résumé enhancements for liberal Democrats.”
“YOU THINK I’M GONNA BE SITTING ON A WAITING LINE?”
But wait – it gets better. In 2025, during your “Fighting Oligarchy Tour” with AOC, you spent over $550,000 in campaign funds on private jet travel. That’s more than HALF A MILLION DOLLARS to fly around on luxury jets while telling working Americans that billionaires are destroying democracy.
When Fox News caught you boarding a Bombardier Challenger 604 – a luxury jet that costs up to $15,000 PER HOUR – you didn’t apologize. You didn’t show even a SHRED of self-awareness. Instead, you said this to Bret Baier:
“You think I’m gonna be sitting on a waiting line at United … while 30,000 people are waiting? That’s the only way to get around. NO APOLOGIES FOR THAT.”
Let me repeat that for emphasis: “You think I’m gonna be sitting on a waiting line?”
Senator, that quote RIGHT THERE is the DEFINITION of oligarchic thinking. “I’m too important to wait in line with the peasants.” “The rules don’t apply to me because I’m special.” “I deserve luxury accommodations because of my status.”
You know who else doesn’t want to wait in line at United? EVERY SINGLE BILLIONAIRE YOU CLAIM TO BE FIGHTING. The difference is they built companies, created jobs, and generated wealth. You’ve spent 28 years in Congress and passed exactly THREE BILLS:
- The Veterans’ Compensation Cost-of-Living Adjustment Act of 2013
- A bill to name a post office in Danville, Vermont after Thaddeus Stevens
- A bill to name a post office in Fair Haven, Vermont after Matthew Lyon
Two post office namings and one VA adjustment. That’s your legislative legacy after nearly three decades. But hey, at least you can’t wait in line with the working people you claim to represent, right?
THE PATTERN OF ENTITLEMENT
This isn’t new behavior, Bernie. During the 2016 campaign, after you LOST the Democratic nomination, you demanded private jets to campaign for Hillary Clinton. The requests were so frequent that Clinton staffers went from irritated to ENRAGED.
Zac Petkanas, Clinton’s director of rapid response, said this to Politico: “I’m not shocked that while thousands of volunteers braved the heat and cold to knock on doors until their fingers bled in a desperate effort to stop Donald Trump, his Royal Majesty King Bernie Sanders would only deign to leave his plush D.C. office or his brand new second home on the lake if he was flown around on a cushy private jet like a billionaire master of the universe.”
His Royal Majesty King Bernie Sanders. Even your OWN PARTY’S operatives recognized what you are: an entitled oligarch who thinks he’s too special to travel like normal Americans.
But you’re “fighting oligarchy,” right? You’re “standing with working people,” correct?
Quinn’s Law #2: “If you want to know what liberals are up to, pay attention to what they accuse conservatives of doing.”
You accuse billionaires of acting like they’re above everyone else while YOU LITERALLY REFUSE TO STAND IN LINE AT THE AIRPORT. You accuse the wealthy of being out of touch while owning three homes and spending over half a million on private jets in a single year. You claim billionaires don’t pay their fair share while YOU paid less than 13% effective tax rate in some years.
THE CLIMATE HYPOCRISY
Oh, and let’s not forget your environmental crusade. You’ve called climate change an “existential threat to the planet.” You support the Green New Deal. You’ve repeatedly condemned fossil fuel use and carbon emissions.
And then you spent $550,000+ on private jets in ONE YEAR.
The carbon footprint of your “Fighting Oligarchy Tour” is STAGGERING. A private jet produces 2 tons of CO2 per hour of flight. If we conservatively estimate you spent 37 hours in the air (based on $550,000 at $15,000/hour), that’s 74 TONS of CO2 emissions.
For comparison, the average American produces about 16 tons of CO2 PER YEAR. You produced nearly FIVE YEARS’ worth of an average American’s carbon emissions in a few months of flying around to tell people about oligarchy.
But the rules don’t apply to you, do they Bernie? Climate change is an existential threat to EVERYONE ELSE. You need your private jet because you’re too important to wait in line.
THE SOCIALIST WHO LOVES DICTATORS
Let’s talk about your “goodwill” trips to the USSR, Cuba, and Nicaragua. You called the Marxist-Leninist Sandinista takeover in Nicaragua a “heroic revolution.” You honeymooned in the Soviet Union. You’ve praised Cuba’s literacy programs while conveniently ignoring the firing squads and political prisoners.
You know what all these regimes have in common, Bernie? They created ACTUAL oligarchies. They promised equality and delivered misery for the masses while the party elite lived in luxury. Sound familiar?
In Cuba, Castro and his cronies lived in luxury compounds while ordinary Cubans stood in bread lines. In the USSR, party officials shopped in special stores while the people queued for hours for basic goods. In Nicaragua, the Sandinista leadership accumulated wealth and power while the country descended into poverty.
That’s what REAL socialist “success” looks like, Bernie. And you praised it. You celebrated it. You called it heroic.
Meanwhile, you lecture Americans about inequality from your $575,000 vacation home.
QUINN’S LAWS IN ACTION
Let me count the ways Bernie Sanders embodies Quinn’s Laws of Liberalism:
Law #1: “Liberalism always generates the exact opposite of its stated intent.”
- You claim to fight oligarchy while being an oligarch. CHECK.
Law #2: “If you want to know what liberals are up to, pay attention to what they accuse conservatives of doing.”
- You accuse billionaires of acting entitled while refusing to wait in airport lines. CHECK.
Law #6: “Facts are the enemy of liberalism.”
- You ignore the fact that you ARE wealthy, you DO live like an oligarch, and your policies WOULD destroy the middle class. CHECK.
Law #7: “It’s different when you are a Democrat.”
- Conservatives using private jets = destroying the planet. Bernie using private jets = necessary for the people. CHECK.
Law #9: “To liberals, intentions are more significant than the outcomes they achieve.”
- You INTEND to fight oligarchy, so it doesn’t matter that you ARE one. CHECK.
Law #10: “Liberals never think what they are doing is wrong; they only think they haven’t done enough of it yet.”
- $550,000 on private jets isn’t enough – you’ll do it again in the future. NO APOLOGIES. CHECK.
Law #16: “Liberals view the world the way they think it should be, not the way it is.”
- You think you’re a man of the people despite owning three homes and refusing to wait in airport lines. CHECK.
Law #24: “Every time a liberal tries to fix something, someone somewhere loses their job.”
- Your policies would destroy millions of jobs, just like they did in Venezuela. CHECK.
Law #25: “Liberals are great at giving away other people’s money.”
- You want to tax billionaires while hoarding your own millions. CHECK.
THE ULTIMATE PROJECTION
Here’s what makes you the PERFECT MODEL oligarch, Bernie: You’ve convinced millions of people that you’re fighting FOR them while you’re actually demonstrating exactly what you claim to oppose.
An oligarch is someone who:
- Believes they’re above the rules that apply to ordinary citizens ✓
- Lives in luxury while lecturing others about inequality ✓
- Uses their position for personal enrichment ✓
- Demands special treatment based on status ✓
- Shows contempt for working people ✓
- Accumulates wealth and property ✓
- Refuses to make the sacrifices they demand of others ✓
You literally got kicked out of a hippie commune in THREE DAYS for not working. Even communists couldn’t make you pull your weight. That’s not just ironic – it’s PERFECTLY on-brand for every socialist who’s ever lived.
Socialism works great until you run out of other people to do the work while you sit around talking about theory. You proved that in 1971, and you’re STILL proving it 55 years later.
THE PARTY OF OLIGARCHY
Let’s be crystal clear about something: The Democratic Party IS the party of oligarchy, and you’re one of its shining examples.
Look at your colleagues:
- Nancy Pelosi: $120 million net worth
- Chuck Schumer: $9 million net worth
- Dianne Feinstein: Died worth $90 million
- Elizabeth Warren: $12 million net worth
- John Kerry: Hundreds of millions through marriage
- The Obamas: $12 million Martha’s Vineyard estate
These are the people lecturing working Americans about “fairness” and “equity.” These are the politicians demanding higher taxes on “the rich” while protecting their own fortunes. These are the oligarchs running the “anti-oligarchy” party.
And you’re right there with them, Bernie. You’re not an outsider fighting the system. You ARE the system. You’re just better at marketing yourself as something you’re not.
THE VENEZUELA MODEL
You want to talk about oligarchy? Let’s talk about Venezuela – the country whose socialist revolution you once praised.
In 1999, Venezuela had the world’s largest proven oil reserves and was one of Latin America’s wealthiest nations. Then Hugo Chávez implemented the EXACT POLICIES you advocate: massive government spending, wealth redistribution, nationalization of industries, price controls, and attacking “the oligarchs.”
Twenty-five years later:
- Hyperinflation exceeds 1,000,000%
- GDP has collapsed by 75%
- 7+ million people have fled the country
- People eat zoo animals to survive
- The average Venezuelan lost 24 pounds due to food scarcity
- Basic medicines are unavailable
- Electricity and water service fail regularly
But here’s the kicker: The Chávez and Maduro families accumulated BILLIONS in wealth. The socialist party elite live in luxury compounds. THEY became the oligarchs they claimed to oppose, just like every socialist government in history.
That’s your model, Bernie. That’s what your policies create. Not equality. Not prosperity. Not justice. Just a new oligarchy with you and your friends at the top, living in luxury while everyone else suffers.
THE AMAZON HYPOCRISY
Remember when you spent $75 million on a Melania documentary and complained about Bezos firing 300 Washington Post workers? Let me remind you what you conveniently ignored:
Amazon laid off 16,000 CORPORATE EMPLOYEES at the same time. That’s 53 TIMES more people than the Post layoffs. In Washington state alone, Amazon cut 2,198 jobs – SEVEN TIMES the entire Washington Post workforce.
But you didn’t tweet about them. They’re not journalists, so they don’t matter to your narrative. Those software engineers, project managers, and tech workers don’t fit your “oligarchy” story. So you ignored them while screaming about 300 Post employees.
You know who else is an oligarch? Someone worth $2.5-3 MILLION who lectures a man worth $249 billion about using his money wrong while completely ignoring 16,000 working people who lost their jobs.
If you REALLY cared about workers, Bernie, maybe YOU should hire some of those 16,000 Amazon employees. After all, you’ve got millions in the bank, three homes, and apparently enough campaign funds to blow over half a million on private jets.
THE ULTIMATE QUESTION
So here’s what I want to know, Senator Sanders:
What EXACTLY makes you different from the oligarchs you claim to fight?
Is it your multiple properties? No, they have those too. Is it your millions in the bank? No, they have more. Is it your refusal to wait in line with working people? No, that’s EXACTLY what they do. Is it your sense of entitlement? No, that’s the DEFINITION of oligarchy. Is it your carbon footprint from private jet travel? No, that’s PRECISELY the lifestyle you condemn. Is it your legislative record of accomplishment? Well, at least they BUILD things and CREATE jobs.
The only difference between you and the billionaires you denounce is that THEY’RE HONEST ABOUT IT. They don’t pretend to be men of the people. They don’t tour the country on private jets talking about oligarchy. They don’t refuse to wait in airport lines while lecturing others about fairness.
You’re not fighting oligarchy, Bernie. You’re DEMONSTRATING it. You’re the MODEL of exactly what an American oligarch looks like: entitled, hypocritical, wealthy, out of touch, and completely convinced of your own moral superiority despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary.
Even a hippie commune figured this out in three days. When are the American people going to catch on?
THE BROADER PATTERN
This isn’t just about you, Bernie. It’s about the entire progressive movement you represent. It’s about the fundamental dishonesty at the core of modern leftist politics.
You claim to fight for the working class while living like the wealthy elite. You demand sacrifice from others while making none yourself. You praise socialist dictatorships while enjoying capitalist prosperity. You lecture about climate change while producing massive carbon emissions. You denounce oligarchy while EMBODYING every characteristic of an oligarch.
Quinn’s Law #18: “A liberal is someone who has replaced reality with their ideology.”
You’ve spent so long talking about fighting oligarchy that you’ve convinced yourself you’re not part of the problem. You’ve replaced the REALITY of your wealth, privilege, and entitlement with the IDEOLOGY of being a champion of the people.
But reality doesn’t care about your self-image, Bernie. The facts are the facts:
- You were too lazy to work at a hippie commune ✓
- You’ve passed three bills in 28 years ✓
- You own three homes worth millions ✓
- You have a multi-million dollar net worth ✓
- You spent $550,000+ on private jets in one year ✓
- You refuse to wait in airport lines with working people ✓
- You demand special treatment based on your status ✓
- You lecture others about fairness while hoarding wealth ✓
That’s not a champion of the people. That’s not a fighter against oligarchy. That’s an OLIGARCH. That’s YOU.
THE CONCLUSION
Bernie Sanders, you are the PERFECT MODEL of what a modern American oligarch looks like. You’ve mastered the art of living like the wealthy elite while convincing people you’re fighting against them. You’ve turned hypocrisy into a career and entitlement into a brand.
You couldn’t even hack it at a hippie commune for three days because you were too busy talking and too entitled to work. Fifty-five years later, you’re still doing the exact same thing – talking endlessly about revolution while enjoying the fruits of capitalism, demanding sacrifice from others while making none yourself, and projecting your own oligarchic tendencies onto everyone else.
The commune figured you out in 72 hours. How much longer is it going to take the rest of America?
But what do I know? I’m just a 23-year Army combat medic who was actually willing to work on a kibbutz when he visited one, a teacher who lives within his means despite having a family of six, and apparently the only person left who thinks that someone who refuses to wait in airport lines while spending $550,000 on private jets to talk about oligarchy might be…I don’t know…AN ACTUAL OLIGARCH.
Bernie Sanders isn’t fighting the oligarchy. He IS the oligarchy. And he’s been demonstrating it for 55 years, ever since Craig politely asked him to leave Myrtle Hill Farm because talking about socialism is a lot easier than actually living it.
The hippies knew. Why don’t you?
