Parody As a Weapon Part XXIX

Last week, in Part XXVIII, we remained once again in the realm of song parody, and gave attention to the recent revelations of the Durham special counsel investigation. This week, in Part XXIX, we will examine the slight incursion into Ukraine that a babbling Biden seemingly greenlighted before he condemned it.

Those who were sentient and lived through the last 13 months or so of the Jimmy Carter presidency recall our disastrous departure from a nation in the Middle East and the abandonment and hostage-taking of Americans serving there, followed quickly by a Russian invasion of a neighboring country, Olympic boycotts and foreign policy collapse. In the Biden administration, Joe has sped up the pace of American catastrophe so much more efficiently that he was able to achieve such a landmark in his first 13 months or so.

Early in the week, Russian dictator and former KGB colonel Vladimir Putin pulled out the old Soviet playbook, invoking identity politics and history as a means to provide his justification for a Russian recognition of Ukrainian regional breakaways and invasion. As Russian tanks rolled throughout the sovereign borders of Ukraine, the evil Putin also mouthed the same “antifascist” platitudes that American leftist anarchists articulate as they carried out their insurrections in Portland and Seattle, and claimed that he wanted to “de-nazify” Ukraine, despite the fact that they have an elected Jewish president whom Putin wants to eliminate.

Of course, as Putin remains the face of evil, Biden remains the personification of incompetence. Once Putin put forth the Russian antifa lie, it was surprising that Biden didn’t respond that the former Soviet empire that Putin wishes to restore “was just an idea”.

The contrast between the two leaders could not be greater. The lies and distortions that Putin tells have enriched him and his crony oligarchs as he tries to expand the territory and glory of the Russian empire. Joe Biden tells lies and distortions like his tales about Corn Pop to try to inflate his self-image, as his family hustles to enrich themselves.

In the days ahead, the level of commitment to the North Atlantic Treaty Organization by each of its members will be tested, and the United Nations will once again prove itself as an organization incapable of living up to its charter. The American people will suffer economically much more than any Russian oligarch, and the Ukrainian people will suffer every which way. Biden will remind all that former Defense Secretary Robert Gates noted in his memoir that the former Vice President and current occupant of the White House had been wrong about every major foreign policy situation in his time on the public payroll, which began in the 1960s when he was a lifeguard at Prices Run pool in Wilmington and taunted Corn Pop on the diving board.

Another career that came to prominence in the 1960s was that of musician Gary Brooker. The former member of Procul Harum passed away this week, leaving behind a musical legacy that includes hits such as “A Whiter Shade of Pale”.

For this week’s song selection, I will borrow the music (and to some extent, the theme) from their hit “Conquistador”. The song was a critique of the image of the imperial Spanish conquerors who helped advance the European influence into the Americas. I put it forth here as an anti-tribute to Vlad the Invader and a lament of who currently occupies the post that should be leading the efforts to dissuade him from his Russian imperialist efforts.
