When I get in my truck and take a ride, go engage in commerce, or just to escape into the countryside, my radio is usually tuned to the local FM talk radio channel. Most of the personalities are what I guess is considered, nowadays, as conservatives, a word I wonder still has still has meaning. Yesterday, on the afternoon show, this personality who I think I’ll start referring to as the “Beach Boy”, got to talking about Biden and his proclamation by fiat, about “Ghost Guns, gun kits and bump stocks.” As appears to be more usual than not, many of these personalities tend to not know what they are talking about when they take on the subject, and make a lot of unintentional, yet unnerving mistakes, in my opinion. Ghost Guns. What are they talking about? Personally, I never heard of a ghost gun until some personality, or leftist politician decided that it sounded scary. They don’t exist! Biden has directed the ATF, or the Justice Department, God only knows, to make damned sure a firearm has a serial number on it, so a criminal can file it off. That’s all a “ghost gun” is, folks. The political war that the ATF has chosen, with the help of the Biden Administration, and whoever is running that show is going to wage a war against a piece of aluminum(aluminium for some of you), or steel, that has not been completely fabricated into what is currently described by the ATF as a “Firearm”. All this, in the name of keeping guns out of the hands of criminals, so they claim. What I just described is what is commonly described as an 80% lower, by those who like to make their own firearm, or just have an interesting piece of metal for a paperweight and/or item for discussion on their desk. I have built several firearms from kits, from parts, and modified plenty firearms, and one thing that might keep me from doing it in the future is that Biden’s, and the ATF’s excursion into insanity is that now, it could be that all parts will possibly have to be serialized. That’s how ridiculous and serious this Executive Decision could get.
I don’t know, but I’ll bet that the number of “Ghost Guns” out in the wild is such a low number that most criminals never gave it the first mention when going to buy an illegal weapon so they can engage in their chosen career, which is criminal, which means they can not have any kind of weapon, to begin with.
My beef with the Beach Boy is that he doesn’t make reference to any of this, but just goes on to explain his way into defending something that doesn’t even exist. A criminal might alter a firearm to become a machine gun, but even that is rare, maybe some gang member, like in a movie “Grand Torino”, but still rare as can be. Is the altered firearm a ghost gun? Sure, when he files off the serial number.
All this rhetoric is about keeping you and I from owning firearms, nothing else. If the federal government wanted to protect the public from crime, they might start enforcing laws that keep criminals from possessing firearms. Nothing else should ever have been necessary because calling something scary won’t prevent crime, and the only time I want a gun to be considered scary is when my gun is pointed at a criminal, not by some idiot radio personality or a gun grabbing politician.
The left is going to remain desperate to keep us from owning firearms, but it has not a thing to do with crime prevention, just to make more criminals. You know where that leads.
Support your local foundry. Go and buy a piece of aluminum, or steel, and call it whatever you want. That’s all an 80% lower receiver is: a piece of aluminum. But leave me alone, when it comes to my ability to create something, even a firearm.
Beach Boy is a good guy, just sometimes makes loose use of the facts. I’m sure that winging through a multi hour show, using some notes isn’t the easiest thing to do, and God knows. We are all experts, aren’t we?
