The Second Great Experiment

There is a lot of talk about a coming Civil War in this country and I have to admit, it’s looking pretty inevitable at this point.  The United States of America is inhabited by two very strongly opposed groups.  In the past, the average American could overlook most D.C. politics so the differences between the groups didn’t feel as critical to your average man.

Then 2020 happened.

We keenly felt how much political policies can affect our everyday lives.  Even apolitical people were drawn into having strong opinions about COVID or the riots that were happening all over the country.  Then, the possible election fraud and the incident on January 6th happened.  It was overwhelming and it was so very close to our homes, in our very lives.  And, suddenly, everyone had an opinion.  My own mother, whom I had never had a political conversation with before, found that she had some strong opinions about the shutdowns and mandates that were rolling through our area.

Nowadays, no one can argue that federal and state policies don’t matter.  Demonstrably, they do.  And the two political parties in America have almost opposite suggestions for how to fix every problem we have.  How are we supposed to find common ground?

The answer?  We aren’t.  The left has proven they are unwilling to compromise in any way and, honestly, neither are we.  We’ve tried it and if we give a little, they take a lot.  The country will be taking a hard left or a hard right in the near future and the other half of the country will not be pleased.

But a hot Civil War is not the answer.

American fighting American on the streets of our beloved country?  No one wants that.  But what other option do we have?  We can’t just let the Left take our country and turn it into the next failed Communist state.  We need to find a solution and we need to throw all of our energy at it.

What do I propose?

The United States is the Great Experiment.  Now, we need to take it to the next level, the Great Experiment 2.0.

Is Capitalism better?  Or is Socialism better?  Is the family the best building block of society?  Or is the group?  Is a country built on a Christian foundation healthier and stronger?  Or one built on a secular foundation?

There is only one way to find out.  Let’s allow the Left the opportunity to prove their ideology and take the opportunity to prove ours.

Let’s split this country into three separate, but closely allied, countries.  New England, the west coast and the rest of the country.  New England and the west coast could even choose some different strategies so they could compare the difference between socialism and communism or basing society on the group vs. the individual and the rest of the country could re-found itself upon the Constitution and the Judeo-Christian values this country was initially built upon.  Then, in one hundred years, we could compare the three nations based upon pre-determined criteria.  The Second Great Experiment.

We are an educated, civil society.  There is no reason to allow our differences to lead to a fight.  We are a great hegemonic power on the decline anyway.  We are already losing our power and influence around the world, why not use this time to re-configure and, perhaps, re-emerge better and stronger?  What have we got to lose?

There is one loud, resounding response to all mentions of a peaceful splitting of this country, “It’ll never work.”

These are the same people who thought a handful of small colonies revolting against the strongest nation on earth wouldn’t work either.  These are the same people who thought that the Axis powers couldn’t be defeated.  That the mighty Soviet Union would best us.  That we’d never make it to the moon.

They are wrong.

The American spirit has done the impossible too many times to discount us now.  Further, other nations have managed to split peacefully.  If they can do it, so can we.  All we need is a plan and the will to carry it out.

  1. With the rate of decline we are going through, and the left’s goals, I don’t know if there is enough time, or that an adversary would play along.
There would be a lot of sorting out, to make that happen. If that was a peaceful transition to what you suggest, and the boundaries were acceptable, maybe.

  2. In principle a reasonable idea; in practice comes back to that problem about in the words of JFK “dealing with those who say ‘what’s mine is MINE but what’s YOURS is negotiable.'”
