Parody As a Weapon Part XLII

Joe Biden is not the only defective commander in Washington, D.C.

Previously, in Part XLI, we used the familiar tool of song parody to mock the loud and proud minority seeking to grow larger through their aggressive recruiting drive this month. In this session, while the tool will remain the same, we will examine why it is difficult to tell the sports section from the editorial page in the fake newspaper that no one reads anymore.

The National Football League (NFL) has been searching for ways to appease the left for the last several years, alienating many in its traditional base in the process. Those who remember the battles more than a half century ago between the brash and cocky upstart quarterback Joe Namath against the establishment NFL commissioner Pete Roselle should recognize that the character of these disputes have changed significantly.

During the last decade, the Washington Redskins had been under great pressure to change the name of the team, due to claims of offense by a small but vocal minority claiming to represent America’s indigenous oppressed people. After a couple of seasons of being the team that dare not say its name, the franchise has now settled for the moniker of the Washington Commanders.

As it sometimes happens, it now appears the team formerly known as the Redskins has gone from being a victim of leftist bullying to a willing accomplice (suggesting that the hostage/ sympathizers created by Stockholm Syndrome might name the most extreme cases “Washington Syndrome”) . The team has fined defensive coordinator Jack Del Rio $100,000 for his remarks when he referred to the events of January 6, 2021 at the U.S. Capitol as a “dust up”, and pondered on why the riots, death, and looting that democrats had sponsored and supported over the prior seven months had not received similar attention.

Jack Del Rio would have no difficulty finding others here who question the appropriate label for what took place as a crowd entered the Capitol eighteen months ago, and some engaged in acts of vandalism and assault. Coach Ron Rivera weighed on after Del Rio was forced to apologize and seem to suggest that what distinguished the events of January 6 at the Capitol and the ‘mostly peaceful’ protests that followed the death of George Floyd was that people died on January 6 at the Capitol.

It appears lost on Coach Rivera and those who share his sentiments that the only death known to have been deliberately caused on January 6, 2021 at the U.S. Capitol was the homicide of Ashli Babbitt by Lt. Byrd of the Capitol Police. Rivera and others like him apparently have forgotten about those rioters in his city injuring police officers and threatening Senator Rand Paul outside the White House following President Trump’s acceptance of the Republican nomination. Rivera is apparently ignorant of the murder of retired Captain David Dorn, killed by looters during the St. Louis riots that Rivera has protectively excluded from examination. It would be easy to accuse Rivera and his fellow travelers of racism, since Captain Dorn was an African-American victim of the mostly peaceful protests, but it would be wrong to do so, since what is in his heart is not known by me. It is fair to conclude that he is ignorant and partisan, though, and certainly unworthy of command, based on his words and actions.

Unfortunately, Ron Rivera and the Washington Commanders represent the city whose name they bear. Washington is a dysfunctional city wrought with crime and poverty alongside great wealth and power, where the ignorant are manipulated and exploited in order to help the powerful maintain their elite status. It is a jurisdiction unable to field of jury of 12 that aren’t donors to Hillary Clinton or otherwise related to her campaign. The District of Columbia is a place that produces very little outside of regulations that inhibit the productivity of the rest of the country. It is a city where people claim they go to do good but stay to do well.

When the football team there was known as the Redskins, there was a fight song, In 1983, the song could be heard in bars all around the metropolitan District of Columbia region, as the team was a Super Bowl winner, full of colorful characters like John Riggins, who famously told Supreme Court Justice Sandra Day O’Connor to “Loosen up, Sandy baby”.

Now, it appears more likely that members of the team and staff are more likely to be joining protesters outside of Supreme Court justices’ homes than interacting with them at the National Press Club following a championship victory. For the team striving to be accepted and politically correct in its almost all-democrat enclave, a new song definitely appears to be in order. Since they only seem interested in the democrat talking points to inform their conduct off the field, the following update is being offered to the franchise.

Fail for the Redskins!
Forget Victory!
Signal your Wokeness!
Show that you’re P.C.!

Don’t just play your game—Don’t make that your aim!
Pander to the left Swamp, Change the team’s name!
Fight for, fight for what the swamp anoints
Leftist talking points. Rah! Rah! Rah!

Fail to the Redskins!
Forget Victory!
Signal your Wokeness!
Show that you’re P.C.!

Join the leftist mob- that’s now our job

Fine those who dissent-he’s a fascist slob

They should call us the bureaucrats

Or the democrats. Rah! Rah! Rah!

Fail to the Redskins!
Forget Victory!
Fighting for Power
That’s sport in D.C.!
