Chris Cuomo Considered Volunteer Firefighter Position; Balked After Interview With Fire Chief

In case anyone was wondering what former CNN host Chris Cuomo has been up to since he was fired last December, according to a scoop from The Daily Beast, he considered becoming a volunteer firefighter with the East Hampton (New York) Fire Department earlier this year. In fact, he was said to be “eager” to do so.

An admirable goal, right?

Two anonymous sources told The Daily Beast that, following an interview with EHFD Chief Duane Forrester, Cuomo withdrew his application. It seemed the time commitment was too great.

Forrester had reportedly said: “It’s a very time-consuming thing. There are monthly meetings and drills and you have to meet a percentage of your calls. That’s why we don’t have many celebrities.”

Apparently, Cuomo is too busy.

Cuomo lives in nearby Southampton, New York, with his wife, Christina Cuomo, and his children.

He had been under investigation by CNN for using his professional connections and holding strategy sessions to help his brother, former New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo, beat multiple allegations of sexual harassment. When he was unceremoniously fired by CNN on December 4, it was believed that was the cause.

However, it was later reported by The New York Times that days before the firing, Jeff Zucker, then-president of CNN Worldwide, had received a letter from:

A lawyer representing a woman who had worked with Mr. Cuomo years earlier at ABC News. She said he had sexually assaulted her and that, in the heat of the #MeToo movement, Mr. Cuomo had tried to keep her quiet by arranging a flattering CNN segment about her employer at the time.

The letter described it as an “abuse of power at CNN to attempt to silence my client.”

By week’s end, Mr. Zucker had fired Mr. Cuomo, telling him that a drumbeat of scandals had become “too much for us.”

In March, Cuomo filed a $125 million lawsuit against the network for firing him.

And most recently, he’s posted videos of himself appearing to be reporting from Ukraine on Instagram. But the Daily Mail reported that 24 hours after his last report, Cuomo was spotted in the Hamptons.

Former CNN anchor Chris Cuomo was spotted out in the Hamptons just a day after he appeared to be reporting live from Ukraine while rebranding himself as a ‘free agent’ in an effort to rehabilitate his career.

Cuomo looked relaxed in a casual t-shirt and ball cap as he strolled around Sag Harbor, New York on Tuesday with actor Gregg Bello, a friend who has supported the ousted anchor since his December 4 firing from CNN.

Cuomo, 51, announced on Instagram Monday that he was rebranding himself as a ‘free agent’ and shared videos of his reporting from Ukraine while plugging merchandise – including a ‘Free Agent’ shirt that his friend Bello was seen wearing on Tuesday.

All in all, firefighting requires dedication, integrity and a willingness to put oneself in harm’s way, traits that are foreign to the arrogant Cuomo brothers. The East Hampton Fire Department is so much better off without him.

  1. Chris thought “Fahrenheit 451” was a documentary. Once he discovered that being a fireman was not about burning books but about the real work of fighting fires, it didn’t seem so glamorous. Working hard in a dangerous job? Doesn’t sound like a career choice made by any liberal progressive I know.
