DeSantis gains ground on Trump in hypothetical match-up

By Office of the Governor of Florida – Governor Ron Desantis

In a new Politico-Morning Consult poll released Tuesday, Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) gained ground in a hypothetical match-up against former President Trump, advancing 7 points. Approximately 33 percent of Republicans and Republicans who lean independent would support DeSantis in a 2024 party primary race if it were held today, and 47 percent would back Trump.

Although Trump holds a comfortable lead against DeSantis, he has lost one percentage point from 48 percent. In contrast, DeSantis has risen to 26 percent, according to an earlier Politico-Morning Consult poll this month. Another August poll showed that Trump supported 57 percent of Republicans, while DeSantis was backed by 18 percent.

The news arrives as Trump is anticipated to potentially declare a 2024 presidential run-on Tuesday; however, allies within the Republican Party have counseled him to wait until the results of a runoff Senate race in Georgia is decided.

After the GOP’s lackluster performance in the midterms, it appears that support for Trump is waning. DeSantis, a rising star in the Republican Party who has hinted at a presidential run in 2024, easily won reelection on Election Day, beating his opponent by a 20-point margin.

Trump has started criticizing his probable primary competitor, saying he is an “average” governor. DeSantis has been gaining popularity in polls, and in an ABC News-Ipsos poll from October, more Republicans said they trusted the Florida governor over Trump to lead the new path of the GOP.

Is it appropriate for Desantis to show more support for former President Trump? Trump believes that Desantis ought to be more loyal since Trump assisted in getting Desantis elected Governor of Florida in 2018. Trump has already announced that Desantis would not have been elected Governor if Trump hadn’t have endorsed him because Desantis wasn’t well known at that point.

I believe that the two would be a mutually beneficial agreement. The only potential drawback is if Desantis enters the race as a candidate, which could divide the votes in the primary and give one of the other contenders the Republican nomination.

Desantis would ease everyone’s minds if he would just come out and say whether or not he intends to run for the nomination. I’ve decided to wait on my pick until I see how Trump will conduct himself this time around. I don’t mind the straightforward, ‘go after them’ campaigning. I just take issue with all the name calling.

The mid-term elections yielded the following results: I don’t think the American people want to hear about how the election was stolen from him again. The Republican base has already heard this and they want to move on to the 2024 Presidential election.

It is up to Trump to decide how to proceed, as we are all aware that he cannot be controlled by his campaign management. He has a habit of doing the opposite of what they want him to do, so we will have to wait and see
