I read the classics and mythologies because my grandmother put them in front of me. I would rather have been playing with friends. I ask questions because my grandmother asked me. So, in keeping with the foregoing, what concerns do I see in the country today.
Middle ground. Who defines exactly where or what that is? As is beauty, “the middle” appears to be in the eye of the beholder. Which doesn’t really tell us much does it? Only through the free exchange of ideas can we find it—but we have to be willing to hear something outrageous or distasteful and consider it. But should that not lead to common goals? “…the highest form of Human Excellence is to question oneself and others.”
Follow the science. Science, by definition, is gathering data and applying it to what we thought we knew. Throwing out the theories that provide no relevance, retaining those that do. Searching. Stealing a thought from Karl Marx, science has been used as an instrument of oppression. Although I am a devout non-believer of his theories, that sounds suspiciously like what our government did to us beginning in 2020 with the lockdowns. And they kept doing it without exploring and refining their own recommendations. To paraphrase Professor Einstein, doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result is insanity. “The only true wisdom is in knowing you know nothing.”
Media integrity.” Early last summer, a Reuters Institute report found that the US ranks last among 46 countries in “trust in media.” Why? Perhaps opinion versus neutral reporting? Perhaps we are told what to think? Perhaps political polarization makes the Fourth Estate a servant to politics? In any case, only 29% of respondents trusted the media. Has the media become advocates who manipulate meaning for their own beliefs? “Integrity is choosing your thoughts and actions based on values rather than personal gain.”
And then there’s Congress. Also this past summer, a Gallup poll indicates a 71% job DISapproval. Wow! Why? We send our best to Congress, right? Or is it Party over principle? Are they our best? Well as the Heritage Foundation pointed out, why do our congressmen need a taxpayer funded account to pay for sexual harassment claims? “…know this of a truth, that no evil can happen to a good man, either in life or after death.”
But I have a suggestion, don’t listen to what our politicians, social justice organizations, and media say. Look at what they do. “To find yourself, think for yourself.”

That’s almost a third of the country that goes along with the spew of the media. Scary! As far as 71% job disapproval of Congress, isn’t that actually kind of low? I recall in the past that the job approval of the House, anyway, was in the teens and sinking. People have felt much disapproval in those two institutions, for a long time, yet nothing seems to change.
The bottom line, to me, is that anyone trusting any of their political representatives, and the media, is just crazy.
Which makes me cringe at the thought of some idiot out in the wild who says that “You will own nothing, and you will be happy.” To think of the amount of delusions anyone who might think that way means that we allow all the atrocities in society and have no idea where they came from. They came from us, and because of our lack of oversight and our increasing complacency. At some point, and I think we have reached it, one side will get to the point that they will just take, and we will submit. Not all, but enough will.
