Political Parody As a Weapon Part LXIX; It takes one to know one.

Last week in Part LXVIII, we examined new years yet to come through the lens of a one hit wonder golden oldie. This week, we will step outside the comfortable zone of song parody to examine an oldie who has managed to make some gold, and an up and coming imitator.

Since mid-December, the mainstream press has suddenly resurrected its interest in investigative journalism and has begun to chronicle the many prevarications of the newly elected congressman from the Third Congressional District in New York, representing parts of Queens and Long Island.

These intrepid members of the Fourth Estate have been shocked, shocked to discover that George Santos has fabricated parts of his biography, inflated his resume, and has a checkered history regarding his relationship with others as well as the truth. These discoveries have helped draw the picture that the newly-elected congressional representative may have demonstrated a sufficiently impaired level of integrity that render him unfit for elective office.

All of these revelations are certainly a cause for concern, though a cynical observer might be tempted to think that this sudden attention to examining the claims of a politician might be motivated by the fact that Mr. Santos ran for office as a republican, and is further complicated by his proclaimed membership in the LGBT(fill in as applicable) community (a special interest group for which the democrats wish to obtain exclusive representation). Certainly, the disinterest in Elizabeth Warren’s (D-MA) high cheekbones and Dick Blumenthal’s (D-CT) Viet Nam service claim as they continue to seek reelection tends to support this notion.

After all, as pointed out in this series, as well as other writers at this site, the conservative blogosphere and anywhere that truth and accuracy are valued, the current part time occupant of the White House has shown a propensity to engage in remarkably similar behavior to George Santos with a head start of nearly half a century. To illustrate this, a table appears below to compare and contrast the questionable claims from each of these politicians.

As the ample open space on the left side of the table indicates, Santos in his 34 years has not begun to even challenge Biden’s record over the last five or six decades for an inability to distinguish fact from fiction or right from wrong. Other articles have summarized or touched upon Biden’s serial lies and fabulist statements. Just as Biden’s lies have served as a major feature of his time in office, it does not appear that from a point of history and precedence, there is much that can be done to Santos for his lies if the voters choose to elect him. In a moment of supreme irony along with a likely tip of the hat to the GOAT, Santos is on record sending a tweet last year calling Biden a pathological liar. After all, it takes one to know one.
