Can Patrick Morrisey take Joe Manchin?

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey has declared his intention to run for governor or Senate in 2024, indicating he may mount a challenge to the current Democratic senator. Appointed as the state’s top law enforcement official in 2013, Mr. Morrisey said back in November that he was seriously considering a bid, and his announcement today solidifies those plans.

West Virginia Attorney General Patrick Morrisey is expected to announce his candidacy for a state-level political office on April 4. The event will be held in Jefferson County, and he plans to embark on a tour afterward to reach out to constituents. Highly placed sources have indicated that Morrisey’s potential candidacy could either be for the U.S. Senate or the governor’s mansion.

State Sen. Patricia Rucker views Patrick Morrisey as a formidable opponent for any role he may enter the race for. She told Fox News that from all the years she’s known him, she knows he is “a fierce fighter, committed to his principles, and leadership like his is exactly what we need.” It looks like Morrisey will be ready for any challenge in the future.

Last November, Morrisey expressed his interest in running for Senate again. He told Fox News Digital that due to all the work he had already been doing, it would result in a “very, very smooth transition” if he were to run again, having come close previously to unseating Manchin by less than 20,000 votes.

In a statement to supporters in April, Patrick Morrisey proposed that he was ready for upcoming fights and potentially a new role in 2025 due to his success in “the arena” and regular victories against the Biden agenda.

When asked about ways to better his candidacy in the case of a potential rematch, Morrisey spoke to Fox News and noted that he is aggressively fighting the Biden administration on many topics. He said, “I’m out in front leading against them [Biden Administration], fighting against them right now. I believe these threats to our freedoms are essential subjects for West Virginia and our nation.”

Rep. John C. Smith declared that if he were to go into the U.S. Senate, he would be prepared on the first day to confront woke culture, oppose the Green New Deal, and ensure communities remain protected from deadly fentanyl. He continued by saying that these are current initiatives he is actively pursuing, and making a move to the Senate would likely be an easy transition for them all.

Republican Gov. Jim Justice, eligible to serve one additional term in office, is reportedly considering a bid for the U.S. Senate against incumbent Democrat Senator Joe Manchin. Justice was first elected to West Virginia’s gubernatorial seat in 2016 as a Democrat before switching parties during a rally with President Trump in 2017 and later re-elected to his role in 2020 as a Republican candidate.

Senator Manchin made national headlines when he refused to support President Biden’s Build Back Better plan. After several rounds of negotiations, the two parties eventually found common ground, and the Inflation Reduction Act was introduced in its place. Thanks to Senator Manchin’s vote, it passed through the Senate.

  1. Manchin is a slick pol. He pretends to oppose and question Biden’s and Schumer’s bills, but when it comes time to vote, he votes with Schumer and Biden. He gives the false impression that he is an “old-time moderate Dem.”
He supported Obama, Hillary, and now Biden even though all three said they wanted to end the coal industry, which is a major employer in W. Virginia.

  2. I hope some Republican drop kicks Manchin as far away from the US Senate as can be. Manchin is a fraud. He might even change his affiliation to Republican, just to remain a senator.
Don’t be duped into believing the fraud. He is a master of talking out of both sides of his mouth. Funny thing about masters of that is that anyone who pays the slightest attention can spot them a mile away, but only if they choose to. Start paying attention, people!
