In one corner, we have Bill “Windows and Vaccines” Gates, the man who thinks humans are the planetary equivalent of a pesky rash. In the other corner, we’ve got Peter “Geopolitics Guru” Zeihan, the guy who claims our lack of reproduction is the ticking time bomb ready to implode our global piggy bank. It’s a showdown of apocalyptic proportions – the Battle of the Baby Boom (or Bust).
Gates, the eternal pessimist, looks at the world population and sees a cancerous growth, spreading its consumerist tendrils across the Earth. He probably thinks the planet would be better off if humans traded in their iPhones for loin cloths and went back to communicating through grunts. Bill, we get it – you’re the original “unsubscribe” button for humanity.
Now, on the flip side, we’ve got Zeihan, the brainiac who’s convinced the lack of baby-making in Western countries is the real culprit behind our impending economic doom. According to him, the grandmas and grandpas of the world are going to bankrupt us because there won’t be enough young whipper-snappers to foot the bill for their retirement home karaoke nights. Imagine a world where the economy crumbles because millennials were too busy perfecting avocado toast recipes instead of making babies. Who would’ve thought?
In this corner, we have Gates waving his climate change flag, shouting, “Save the Earth, stop procreating!” Meanwhile, Zeihan is doing some geopolitical math, calculating how many Gen Zs it takes to change a lightbulb (spoiler: they’ll probably hire someone on TaskRabbit to do it for them).
It’s a clash of visions – one envisions a world where population control saves the environment, and the other sees a financial Armageddon caused by the lack of strollers cluttering up the streets.
As the bell rings for the final round, we’re left to ponder: Will the Earth succumb to overpopulation and environmental collapse, or will it crumble under the weight of Social Security checks and nursing home bills? Gates and Zeihan, the stage is yours. May the snarkiest prophet win. 🌍💥
