In an early-morning Christian Men’s Group, a brother talked about “lousy fair”. Not sure if it was an intended pun or an illiteracism (pretty sure I made that word up), but either way I latched onto it. I’m gonna go with that.
So, how are things going? “Lousy to fair” would at times seem optimistic.
At this point, I am blessed, I wake up every day alive and thank God for the creation, our manifold blessings, our families and friends and the big-ticket item: Eternal life with our Lord Jesus in Heaven.
One of the sub-definitions of fair, per Miriam Webster is ‘superficially pleasing’. I can also interject menzamenz (and it’s variants), come ci, come ca (pardon the lack of the correct ‘c’), meh and insert you fav word here: ______.
However, in our everyday lives, another thing that came up at out meeting was that the evil one attacks us through our women and our families. I have never thought of this before, but I do need to think about it… we are strong ones in our tribe. What better way to get to us than through our loved ones?
A brother recommended the book Point Man by Steve Farrar. That’s now on my reading list. I need some time to think about this: by messing with our kids, erasing history, civility, intentionally blurring the boundaries between male and female, we are being attacked, relentlessly. Maxing out our National Credit cards in a way no responsible adult would and screwing with our Military is beyond evil and exposing us to violence. And then there’s the Resident, but I’ll leave FJB and his sponsors for another day.
Are you going to Lousy Fair? Musical puns and treatments include the song, Scarborough Fair, an old English ballad covered many times over the years. Are you going to laissez fair, or lousy fair? This question raised my consciousness on where I am heading, and hopefully will result in both Spiritual and personal growth.
The analogy of the current fair, seems not very reminiscent of fairs such as Palisades Amusement Park, which I heard of ad nauseam growing up on Long Island as a kid on radio commercials, but was never actually there (“swings all day and after dark”!). Compare any county fair or fireman’s carnival. We are not mid-picnic at this juncture.
Prayers for revival of our once great Nation, bless our soldiers, Vets and all our brothers and sisters. Let’s us not be stuck in Lousy Fair. Per the Gipper: “our best days yet to come.”
