I promised myself that I wasn’t going to waste one more minute on a man who has become irrelevant while still holding the most powerful office in the world. So, rest easy – event though this article will mention Joe Biden, it’s actually about the legacy news media.
On December 20th, The Guardian published an article by Margaret Sullivan entitled: “Joe Biden is going out quietly but with trademark decency.” Yes, that’s really the title, and the piece isn’t even a satire.
The article starts out with the requisite Trump derangement, but it’s Sullivan’s delusional description of Joe Biden that validates the public’s collapsing confidence in the MSM. She assesses his character thusly:
But even in this diminished state, and even amid low approval ratings and endless criticism, Biden remains himself to a large extent: decent, optimistic, patriotic and empathetic.
Yes, she really wrote that, and since the piece came out in December, I must assume it’s not an April fool’s joke.
Let’s analyze that sentence by starting with Joe’s alleged empathy. Was he showing his characteristic empathy when he kept grieving families waiting for three hours for the dignified transfer of their loved one’s bodies – while he napped? Was he understanding the feelings of others when he had the DoJ target observant Catholics, concerned parents, and pro-life protesters?
Was Joe a model of decency when he stood before a blood-red backdrop, flanked by military guards, and dehumanized his political opposition – calling them semi-fascists? How about when he pardoned his son for committing the same crimes as he insists the rest of us be imprisoned for.
Is Sullivan telling us that Joe Biden sued numerous states to facilitate election fraud out of a sense of patriotism? Is he a patriot for funding and arming Islamic terrorists? Is he honoring the will of the people as he takes steps to undermine the incoming administration?
Sullivan uses Biden’s post-election graciousness to Donald Trump as anecdotal evidence of his optimism. She quoted Biden after his White House meeting with Trump, and wrote:
“Because it’s who we are as a nation, it’s how we’re supposed to be … ” he (Biden) said about the peaceful transfer of power. He emphasized his belief in the American people and joked about being what he called “congenitally optimistic”
Of course, after that meeting, Joe continued to undermine the will of the people – commuting the sentences of over 1500 criminals, and selling off the materials needed for a border wall – with a smile.
Sorry Maggie, harming others with a smile doesn’t make Joe Biden decent. It makes him a sociopath, feigning decency for the gullible.
Journalism is intended to be a fact-based industry. Even opinion writers, like Margaret Sullivan, are supposed to provide analysis based on facts. But confidence in the MSM is at an all-time low because Americans aren’t blind. We’ve come to realize that what the MSM peddles as “fact,” often isn’t.
Pieces such as Sullivan’s are either lunacy (disconnected from reality) or deception (intentional misrepresentation). Regardless of which, it is of no value to the public. The MSM faces a long road back to relevance, and as Sullivan’s article shows, it hasn’t even started the journey yet.
