What Is Ground Truth

In younger years I believed the nightly news, newspapers, 60 Minutes, and wire services actually provided the real deal, ground truth news of the day. I knew there was a bias, but I thought the slant was measured by only a few degrees. Nowadays, I don’t know where to get news that even approximates ground truth. Somewhere among the cacophony of voices screaming in cyberspace, there’s reliable information. Real news. Where is it?

Consider the Epstein Files. It was a red meat campaign issue in 2024. The new Attorney General promised full disclosure and handed out 3 ring binders of information. But, no names of perps or clients appeared.

Epstein was convicted. His facilitator was convicted. Sex-trafficked victims testified. But, no one else is charged with a single sex crime. Moreover, the Governments past and present haven’t provided an explanation other than “nothing to see here, move on.”

Gov. Ron DeSantis signed a bill in Florida which released 150 pages of Grand Jury testimony for crimes Epstein committed in Florida.

Don’t the FBI files include an evidence list at a minimum? Why can’t that list be made public? It might indicate if there is reliable evidence about who went to Epstein’s island.

If something can’t be released, why doesn’t the DOJ cite the legal reason for not releasing it – and describe the withheld material generically. If they can’t due to an ongoing investigation, they should say so.

Regardless of the legal status of withheld documents, where does a citizen find ground truth on the Epstein files? Name one reliable, truthful, with full disclosure on what is not known and why – source?

Likewise, the “Russiagate” files on the phony accusations against Trump from 2016 are circled in clouds of confused, conflicting reports. Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard may be forthcoming with a “Who shot John” step by step expose. TBD.

And then there’s rhetoric vs reality on what was cut and what was financed in the Big Beautiful Bill and $9B in follow on reconciliation cuts. What is unfunded, cut, eliminated, or still paid off – and for how long? I haven’t attempted to decipher and translate a thousand plus pages of Congressional budgetary legalese. Where is a list with numbers in plain text English?

Where is the high profile professional Columbia student and Palestinian barbarian apologist in his deportation? The MS 23 “Maryland Dad?” What are the numbers on a timeline on arrests, detention, and actual deportations?

Not to exclude any concept of ground truth on the War in Ukraine and the Muslim massacres in the Mideast? Progress in eliminating Hamas in Palestine? Actual situation for people living there? Israeli plans for what happens next?

I believe I get some good info on X.

David Horowitz picks up where his late father left off on informing fellow Americans well. Counter-climate data from young Chris Martz. News from Congress from Thomas Massie and Keith Self. Other sources as they appear in my feed have various degrees of credibility to me.

What websites produce daily news like newspapers used to do when journalists actually sought ground truth? Rank order them by focus and quality?

Who is a daily, weekly, monthly “must read?”
