Patterns in the Noise
Rue wasn’t a man of many words, but when he spoke, Caleb listened.
He pointed to a makeshift whiteboard propped on a tree stump. “EMP pulses over civilian airfields. Contracted logistics running through old NORAD sites. Satellites going dark for minutes at a time. They’re staging something.”
Andrew added, “The Net is choked with disinformation. Anything close to the truth gets drowned in parody or deleted.”
They developed a pattern recognition matrix, combining Caleb’s military intelligence experience, Rue’s old contacts, and Andrew’s digital skills. They called it “the Signal.”
Beneath the noise of the world was a frequency—spiritual, digital, even emotional. It whispered of something ancient. Rue called it “the old war,” a battle far older than any government. “You ever read Genesis 6?” he asked one night. “This has happened before.”
