I’m driven to write. If I didn’t, at some point I would feel like I must burst. Been that way since I was a teenager. I write as self-expression. However the themes of my writing are in the defense and for the promulgation of my values. They represent “The Right.” Hence, I write Rightly.
I say I’m “still” writing Rightly, because I did a very long piece “Writing Rightly” back in 2006. That piece still rings true, so let’s update it and rock on with what aged well.
Why I write what I write.
I write because I must or bust. What I write is thematic with occasional bits of whimsy or circumstance.
When I was 12 years old I was waiting at a bus stop on Fontenet Army Base, France to go home from the movies. The cold wind was blowing snow horizontally in front of the bus headlights in great swirls. I thought how beautiful and interesting that was. I decided I’d like to describe that for other people. How would I say it in written words?
My heart’s desire to write became my duty in the community of Christ when I had that mystical experience on March 15, 1987 (age 36) and had the words (not a voice) enter my mind saying “You will not command in peace or war. You will read and write.”
From age 12 to almost 51, I wrote for school, a college magazine, work, and myself. I filled notebooks with scraps of paper. Whenever a thought revealed itself to me, like Eric Hoffer, I’d jot it down and work it a bit. Unlike Hoffer I never put those eclectic ruminations together in a coherent book.
I wrote too much bad poetry. I had pithy statements that seemed like Samuel Johnson’s 18th Century witty writing. But, I never figured out how to package them.]
I focused on fulfilling my duty to read and write working on a novel over many years and was still working it when 9-11 exploded our world.
The week after 9-11 I wrote an op ed about what had just happened and would unfold in the years to come. “One Front: Two Wars” was picked up on a number of sites. Got good feedback. So, I started writing op eds frequently. I became a regular on Jim Bacon’s Virginia-policy “e-zine.”
Started writing weekly and publishing on several Right Wing websites. The hour plus it took to format my piece 5 or so different ways for different publishers was onerous for me with the frenetic pace of life I lived in my 50s. I started a blog to carry my stuff and only submitted pieces elsewhere by exception.
My readership dropped dramatically.
Three years later that website got hacked. Lost most of the files. Started a new blog on a commercial platform for better security and stability in 2009. “Deo Vindice.”
This is still true from 2006: “I write about ideas to inform. Mayhaps to persuade.”
I write opposing the Red-Green (Human Secularist Totalitarian- Islamist Totalitarian) alliance hellbent on destroying Western Civilization.
In 2006 I wrote that invading Muslim immigrants are conquering Europe.
And I wrote that our KulturKampf is conflict between the secular humanism from the French Revolution vs. America’s former consensus Judeo-Christian worldview.
I noted our culture of national exceptionalism. And honoring our American and Virginia history to include Confederate memories and our Christian heritage.
Now, I’m almost 19 years further down the short end of my candle.
Remarkable about how little the most important issues have changed. The fundamentals of their conflicts remain the same. However, events might be coming to a crossroads. A precipice. On the cusp of red-letter historical happenings.
During these 19 years, I wrote a non-fiction book about going from grieving to gratitude. And, I put together presentations on the Origins of the US Culture War, How the American Left Went Commie, and the Uses of Language in History.
In the past two years I put together briefings and a proposed Study Plan to derive and instigate reforms at the U.S. Service Academies.
Still working the novel I started in 2001. Two-thirds done.
Still writing, lest I burst.
