Larry Elder has a great article out entitled “The Cure for Trump Derangement Syndrome? Success!” Heck, I’d settle for remission. Mr. Elder points out that in the first 8 months of Trump’s presidency, the Donald has had a string of successes that should make any President of the past century envious – at least the honest ones. Consequently, Trump’s approval has gone up a whopping … 5 points! Elder suggests that it could even go up another 5 points if the trend continues. Yippie! That means that if President Trump continues to lower crime, raise the standard of living, fight government corruption, and spread peace around the world, he might convince 1 in 10 Americans that he is not “literally Hitler.”
Mr. Elder’s article got me wondering: What is the recovery rate for TDS? My gut tells me it’s something south of the 5-year survival rate of pancreatic cancer (which is about 13 percent). If that’s true, then President Trump is approaching his approval ceiling – which is more a statement about the health of our body politic than his leadership.
Maybe comparing TDS to cancer isn’t a fair analogy. Maybe it’s more appropriately compared to psychopathy:
… a mental disorder characterized by a lack of empathy and remorse, manipulative interpersonal style, shallow emotional responses, impulsivity, and a disregard for societal norms and the law, often leading to antisocial or criminal behavior.
Let’s break that down.
- “Lack of empathy and remorse” – refusal to applaud a child suffering from cancer, DJ Daniel. Check.
- “Manipulative interpersonal style” – proliferation of the “very fine people” hoax. Check.
- “Shallow emotional responses” – defaulting to personal attacks like “lying dog-faced-pony soldier.” Check.
- “Impulsivity” – Jasmine Crocket. Check, check, check.
- “Disregard for societal norms and the law” – Holder, Lynch, Garland, Smith, Willis, James, and Bragg. Check.
- “Antisocial or criminal behavior” – encouragement of rioting, vandalism, and assassination. Check.
Did I miss anything? No? I think I can sell TDS as a variant of psychopathy. Okay, so what is the treatment for psychopathy? Nothing. That’s right, there is no known way to cure it, That’s probably because those afflicted don’t want to be cured. They embrace their disorder. Hence, there is no line forming of TDS sufferers demanding inclusion in the next experimental treatment.
The problem is illustrated by Chicago AWFL (affluent, white, female, liberal), Jill Ciminillo. Ms. Ciminillo was carjacked, beaten, and had her arm broken. And yet when she posted on X (with the obligatory selfie), she was more concerned about what President Trump might do, than what the criminals had done.
Dear @realDonaldTrump … I’ve been carjacked in Chicago with my arm broken. I still don’t want you or your troops here.
Which is kinda funny, coming from one of the “we respect our troops” posers.
Check out her smiling picture on X, virtue signaling with her broken arm. Does that look like someone about to head down to a group session at the local VFW and say: I’m proud to stand here and tell you that I hate Donald Trump and everything he stands for, but since he’s fighting crime, I’m ready to start working on my twelve steps?
I’m not seeing it. I am seeing someone too satisfied with her hatred to voluntarily let it go.
I continue to think that President Trump is approaching his approval ceiling, because the first step to recovery is something the TDS afflicted are loath to do: say they were wrong.
