My Answer to a Matt Walsh Question

Political violence is on the upswing. When a leftist radical kills a conservative the left claims it a “both sides” problem — which is observably false. In response, conservatives are asserting that we would never resort to political violence — which has been true so far, but which naively understates the magnitude of the crisis our Country faces. We face a crisis because the radicals are determined to take “peaceful” off of the table. Otherwise, they wouldn’t have killed Charlie Kirk for saying things that they disagreed with.

Matt Walsh has an essay out in which he asks a good question. What would the Democrats do if one of their ideological leaders were assassinated by someone in a MAGA hat, while the Dems were in power?

The fact that it doesn’t take much imagination to answer that question should terrify all of us.

The “never let a crisis go to waste” party would claim that the killing of one of their leaders justifies draconian gun control legislation by any means necessary, to stop the violence and ensure peace and harmony for all. “Any means necessary” including packing the courts with radical jurists and eliminating the filibuster.

Of course, after they’ve established the infrastructure for communism, the radicals would not stop at gun control. They would naturally engage in an orgy of legislation to implement the rest of their “fundamentally transform America” dream. They would

• Implement one-party rule … by nationalizing elections and adding a couple of “blue states” to “preserve democracy,”
• Seize control of the economy … for “climate justice,”
• Mandate DEI … for “social justice,”
• Subsidize gender affirming care … because “the science says so,”
• Implement censorship … to prevent disinformation,
• Criminalize dissent … to eliminate hate,
• Glamorize a culture of death … so that women may kill their young, and the infirm can kill themselves,
• Socialize medicine … for “health justice,” and
• Regulate Judeo-Christian worship … to prevent extremism.

To put it more succinctly, were a leftist leader to be assassinated while the Dems hold power, it would be the end of self-governance. We will have voted ourselves into a state from which there is no peaceful exit — communism.

The Democrats have telegraphed through their words and proposals what they would do, given the right opportunity crisis. That puts us just one deranged fool and a bad election away from losing the America of our founding. Should that come to pass, we may be reminded of something attributed to Thomas Jefferson, “When government becomes tyranny, resistance becomes duty.” We may be forced to reconsider our commitment to “peaceful.”
