The Climate Hysteria is Ending – That’s Great for America!

Ruy Teixeira has an article in the Liberal Patriot (a contradictory name if ever there was one) entitled: The Climate Movement is Circling the Drain – That’s Great for Democrats! He convincingly argues that the climate change hysteria is dying out, but not so convincingly claims that this is a positive development for the Democrats.

Teixeira is an analytical guy. He doesn’t make claims that he can’t back up with data. To support his assertion that the climate movement is “circling the drain,” he points out that:

  • Countries around the globe are backpedaling from their decarbonization commitments.
  • The Trump administration has withdrawn from the Paris Agreement, and has eliminated subsidies for wind and solar – with little backlash.
  • After decades of “green” transition, 81 percent of the world’s energy still comes from fossil fuels.
  • While China is a world leader in the sales of wind and solar equipment, it also remains the world leader in coal fired electrical power generation – and is aggressively adding more.
  • The world population has more acute concerns that climate change – like energy affordability.

After presenting his analysis, Teixeira writes:

No wonder interest in [sic] declining rapidly in the net-zero project. The euphoria of the 2015 Paris Agreement has run into the harsh realities of a global energy system based largely around fossil fuels that is very, very hard to change quickly.

In other words, reality trumps the wishful thinking of the climatistas, and no amount of government advocacy can change the laws of physics or economics.

Teixeira should have stopped while he was ahead, but he couldn’t leave the readers thinking that the Democrat party was circling the drain along with its climate agenda. He ended his piece with this howler:

As the (still well-funded) climate movement fades slowly into irrelevance, Democrats need to realize one important thing: this is great! They’re being let out of climate jail to think freely about their program for the future.

Teixeira seems to think that the waning climate hysteria could be good for his beloved Democrats, by freeing them to engage on policies with a potential to win back voters. Now if he could only teach them that the best way to do that is to get on the 80 percent side of 80/20 issues. He may need to give them some remedial math in a future article to get there.

But what Teixeira doesn’t seem to understand is that the “climate change” agenda, was never intended to address a changing climate. The Democrats haven’t been trying to save the planet. They’ve simply been adhering to their “never let a crisis go to waste” battle plan, even if they have to contrive a crisis to rally around.

The left’s obsession with “climate change” is best understood when considered in the context of their universe of policy positions:

  • Open borders – to crash the American culture,
  • Welfare, transgenderism, and school indoctrination – to crash the family unit,
  • Moral relativism – to crash Judeo/Christian values,
  • DEI and social justice – to crash meritocracy,
  • Decriminalization of destructive behavior – to crash social order,
  • Political violence – to crash civil debate,
  • “Settled science” fixation – to crash scientific discovery and innovation,
  • Court packing, election tampering, and gerrymandering – to crash self-governance, and finally
  • Climate justice – to crash economic prosperity.

When all those things are considered, a much more sinister picture comes into focus. The radicals and the Democrats they control were never interested in saving the planet, lifting the oppressed, or providing justice to the beleaguered.

The soul of the Democrat party is committed to the construction of a socialist paradise. But before construction can begin, everything that has made America great must be demolished. The anthropogenic climate change “crisis” was always just one axis of attack to “fundamentally transform America,” – as Barack Obama once informed us. That an irrational fear of carbon is circling the drain, is indeed great news – but not for the Democrat party.
