Mind Games: How They Play Us; Part II — Social Media: The Great Tribal Reawakening Nobody Asked For

If Part I was the trap, Part II is the divide-and-conquer phase.

Social media took human beings — once capable of nuance, friendship, and healthy disagreement — and shoved us back into warring tribes like it’s 10,000 BC and someone stole the mammoth meat.

It started innocently. We posted pictures of dogs and dinner plates.

Then the algorithms detected something powerful:

Tribal identity + emotional outrage = unholy engagement gold.

Suddenly every issue became a battlefield.

Every conversation became a referendum on your morality.

Every disagreement became a declaration of war.

Memes replaced thought.

Slogans replaced belief.

Digital tribes formed around hats, hashtags, bumper stickers, and whatever slogan the algorithm blessed that week.

We didn’t become more informed.

We became more certain — the most dangerous kind of stupid.

The platforms didn’t do this accidentally.

They weaponized human psychology:

• the need to belong

• the fear of exclusion

• the thrill of righteous anger

• the dopamine hit of tribal approval

They took our oldest instincts — the us-versus-them circuitry that once kept our ancestors alive — and turned them into their business model.

Now half the country is convinced the other half is possessed by demons, even though we still shop at the same Walmarts and hunt the same woods.

Congratulations. We’re technologically advanced but emotionally prehistoric.
